Updating my multi monitor setup to 4K (monitor, TV or wide)

I’m not familiar with that term, sorry. I wouldn’t have thought so as lots of people use TVs below 50” in flight sim without problem.

I believe he is refering to G-sync (Nvidia) or Free-sync (AMD)

In a review of the Samsung they state: 

 Viewing angles are decent due to Samsung's 'Ultra Viewing Angle' layer, making it suitable for moderately large rooms, and it can get bright enough to fight glare in nearly any type of setting. Input lag is extremely low, it has a 120Hz refresh rate, and to top it all off, it has support for variable refresh rate technology to reduce screen tearing.

This can produce a smoother image with more consistent input lag and no screen tearing. I think Chris is right, is this a future thing?

With the coming of FS 2020 and a simultaneous major personal relocation, I am considering a new Jetline PC and monitor. After having used 3 X 24 Dells for about 10 years, I'm still uncertain about continuing with the three monitors vs. single monitor. Then there is the UW controversy including the 49 in. Not being a monitor expert, I read somewhere of a specific single monitor that comes very close to providing the same field-of-view as the 49 inch without compromising height. Can someone assist? Also, is it true MSFS 2020 will not support multiple monitors?

Pierre, variable refresh rate will allow you to run at 36Hz or 47Hz rather than the more usual 30 or 60Hz. I’m not convinced it’s essential for flight sim. There is also a premium attached to such displays. 

With vSync enabled in P3D I experience no tearing at 30 or 60.

Yes that what I was able to find out with my research. I will go for the Samsung 49" 4K UHD HDR QLED Tizen Smart TV (QN49Q80TAFXZC) unless I find a good monitor in the same size and price.

I was told by store manager (a friend) to wait until September, the price will go down and they expect great deal on 49 inch.

Not saying that TV won't be wonderful.  I have a 43" samsung.  Just note in case you were expecting it.  The 49" will not support the variable refresh.  You may not care, or already know that.  But wanted to atleast advise of that. Same with freesync.

Yes i was aware of that, only the 55 and up are capable of variable refresh. So now i need to go back to the store and see if it’s not to big for me and me setup.

Pierre, just be aware you need to perform standard Windows actions as well as flying. 55” is enormous when sat a couple of feet away.

Personally, 43” would be as far as I would go. I was restricted by space.

Yes i know, last week at the store i did find that 49´´ was the biggest I could get. Bigger than that, sitting at 3 feet, i had to move my head alot to see the top and side of the screen. 
 

I am going to see if i cannot find a 43 ´´ monitor in a store, just to see the difference.

Looks like Pierre did all the job for me 🙂. I hope he does not mind if I join the conversation. I am thinking to switch from triple monitor set to a TV as well. Looks like the first TV he selected QN49Q80TAFXZC is shown in Canadian market. In the US I found 49" Class Q80T QLED 4K UHD HDR Smart TV QN49Q80TTAFXZA. Looks similar to his 1st choice.I

t says Native resolution - Freesync. I read that Freesync is for AMD card only. Does it apply to 4k monitors only or to 4k TVs as well? I did not see 4k TVs with G-sync option. 

I read reviews where it says: Native 120Hz panel. It has a HDMI 2.1 input, but when connect PC can only select 60Hz at 4K resolution in Windows 10. Can only configure the desktop to 120Hz when in 1920x1080 (2560x1440 @ 75Hz). I wonder if that would be an issue.

Did you end up buying anything as of yet? I stuck in the middle between Q80T TV and 43" 4K LG monitor. Still trying to make a decision what would be the best option for me. 49-50" QLED TV looks really nice but I am wondering if I am going to be comfortable to sit in front of such big TV. But when I looked at 55" QLED in the store I was actually impressed. Not sure of 43" 4K monitor will give me the same impression and performance. Still thinking.

Hi,

Yes I did, I bought a 43" LG 43UN7300 UHD and I love it. I first got a 49" but I returned it because it was too big for me. I am sitting at about 3 foots from it and a lot of the screen was outside my vision peripheral. I also got it on sale for half the price.

One last comment, When reading and checking spec for the TV I realized that a lot of new specs like Vsync and freesync are only available on TV 55" and up. If you are looking for 43" AND 49" I suggest you read the manual first. What made me decide at the end, was the store visit I did.

Yes. I figured that most oh TVs don’t support g-sync.
