Are other Add-Ons being tested in the Beta

Recommended Posts

We know for example that EasyVFR works but without breaking any NDA's can anyone confirm that other 3rd party add-ons are presently being tested which might be available out of the gate in marketplace. For example, airports, aircraft, chaseplane, peripherals like yokes ect..

No third party add-ons are currently being tested by anyone in the Alpha program, nor would I expect there to be, since Asobo would not want to contaminate the testing environment with external software that might have unpredictable effects.

Whether 3rd party developers are already working directly with Asobo behind the scenes (outside of the Alpha/Beta program) I don’t know.

Since the SDK is still in development, I doubt very much that any complex add-ons that depend on SDK functions will be available on release day, or for quite some time afterwards.

It’s likely that utility programs that interface with the running simulator only via standard simconnect calls (like moving maps) will work “out of the box” on release day, or would require only minor adjustments by developers to make them compatible, but that is purely an assumption on my part.

Without “naming names”, all of my external hardware controllers were recognized when I installed the Alpha, and automatically assigned appropriate default axes.

Microsoft have said the SDK is being used and tested by more than 100 3rd party developers. This happens in a testing process separate to that of the Alpha/Beta testing done by invited users. They also said that dozens of addons are being worked on already. Source is one of the development updates a while back. There is definitely a lot going on behind closed doors with regards to 3rd party developers.

I just checked the VRS website, to see if they will be developing TacPack for MSFS 2020, but they said not for the near future. This would be a great add-on I think, especially for the next gen X-Box users. Add in squadrons of  A2A B-17s, and it's a whole new ballgame.

According to a scenery airport developer the SDK is still work in progress not complete, and is a totally different to anything in previse MS flight sim and scenery from FSX and other sims will not work with just a tweak.

Not directly on topic but related. Flightbeam, iBlueYonder, and Aeroplane Heaven are at work for MSFS as well.
