Horizon Air PNW Milk Run

Recommended Posts

Horizon Air PNW Milk Run

Horizon Air was formed in response to the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978. One of the results of this act was that many larger airlines abandoned routes within the Northwest. To fill this gap in the market, entrepreneur Milt Kuolt and a group of venture capitalists founded Horizon in Seattle in September 1981. Horizon brought together 36 enthusiastic employees and a fleet consisting of two leased Fairchild F-27 turboprop aircraft to begin service between Yakima, Pasco, and Seattle. In the early 1980s, Horizon grew rapidly and in 1982, Horizon acquired Air Oregon, which had served the state of Oregon for a number of years. In 1983, Horizon acquired Utah-based Transwestern Airlines, which served the intermountain West, including Boise. Both these acquisitions expanded Horizon's system map considerably.

Starting and finishing in Portland, our itinerary will include a mix of airfields in Oregon and Washington. The route is not completely realistic as it will include some airports currently served by Horizon and some that are not.

Recommended Aircraft: Majestic Dash 8 Q400

Participation is not limited to Q400 drivers.  As always you are free to fly any aircraft you prefer.  Keep in mind that the Q400 can cruise at 350knts so a faster aircraft will allow you to keep up with group.

In addition to the flight plan (P3D & GTN) the pilots resource package contains some additional documentation that may be helpful for Q400 drivers.  There is a pdf with links to SkyVector charts for the airports in the itinerary, a Q400 preflight guide, and a zip file with Q400 route (rte) files for each leg.

The A Gates at Portland are where you will find Horizon's Q400’s.  I will be at Gate A1 30 minutes before departure to answer questions about setting up the Q.

Date and time: Saturday July 25, 2018. 18:00 UTC.

Where: AVSIM RTWR Teamspeak - Casual Flights Channel

Teamspeak Server Address: ts.teamavsim.com

Cross-Platform Multiplayer: JoinFS. (FSX, FSX-SE, and P3D).

If you want to help others enjoy the multiplayer experience, don't forget to enter your aircraft details on the multiplayer spreadsheet (linked here). Your courtesy will save others a lot of time and effort. Thanks!

Recommend that you set your departure clock to 17:00 (5pm) in local time.

I have to say, that looks pretty exciting. However, I just know I'd get a huge rollocking somewhere along the line.

Scratch that. I've got the KA350i installed in P3Dv4 but I don't have the airport scenery there. I'll be flying the Eaglesoft Citation XLS+. It also has a PL-1 FMS that I understand.

I shall then see you in a C172. ChickenSkyhawk.

I was wondering if you were going to have any time to snap shots with all the FMS button pushing on this flight Roman. Those college paints look a lot better with the landing gear attached and the props spinning. Fun flight but back to flight school for me for part 2.

August 1 NOTAM

The route will continue, starting from Felts Field (KSFF) and will finish in Portland (KPDX), but have modified the route. I added an additional leg from Seattle to Yakima before Portland so the revised order finish order is  (KSEA->KYKM->KPDX).  I have modified the Package adding the additional Q400 routes to the zip file which can be found here.

For today's flight.
Don't know why, but the supplied .pdf for SkyVector links keeps locking up on my system. ( too many updates i presume - ha )
Here is an easy to use route right on SkyVector.
Just click on the airport waypoint --> hover over the proper waypoint --> click on procedure wanted --> popped up & zoomable
T minus 1 hour... Ready yet? 😉
