AVSIM Branch restricted to factual MSFS information?

Recommended Posts

When MSFS will launch on 18 August, AVSIM will probably be flooded by posts like (i) "This sim is complete s**t", (ii) "This sim is the best ever", (ii) "I like this sim better/worse than XP / P3D / FSX", and the like. This can't be avoided and some users may even want to rely their purchase decision on if higher numbers are collected for (i) or (ii). Nothing wrong with that.

However, I would propose a deal: Can we have one subforum strictly restricted to factual information? This refers to questions like "How can I enter outside view?", "Which settings are optimum for photogrammetry cities?", "Where can I activate caching?", etc. etc.

This subforum should be strictly moderated and all questions like the ones in the beginning should get deleted immediately. I have been an MSFS alpha tester from pretty much the beginning and while I am not going to act as a mod, I will gladly help in the fields where I feel competent. However, I am not willing to wade through 10,000 posts with just personal opinion which people are free to vent in the remaining forum branches.

Just a suggestion.

Kind regards, Michael

Sadly unlikely to happen just like we know users will post in other flight sim forums why are you still using this (word not allowed ) still. It has happened before and will continue.

Excellent suggestion. I do not know how the alpha forum was moderated but I know that the site access is a PITA and I suspect it will stay that way and that Avsim will stay a reference forum anyway. That won't be an easy task because a rant can also contain factual informations. But you would the right guy in the right place to make the call, Michael.

Some people are already opening topics like "I can't wait!", "I am coming back to MFS". Who cares really? I think a moderator should review the topics before it is open to the public.

Thanks Dom. As I said, I am not going to moderate that branch which I'd leave to the mods, but will give users a hand, as far as I can. I am sure other former testers will do as well.

Kind regards, Michael

@pmb Michael, Given there’s a Tips, Tricks and How To sub forum for P3D it seems like a good idea. I’ll have a word behind the scenes.

It's a good suggestion, I must not be alone in my thoughts about avoiding the forums as of late due to the anarchy of this subforum, it's really tiring to sift through tens of pages to find one piece of information.

It should work the same way as the P3D one. Useful advice only. Any questions or discussion posts should be deleted. More work for us mods! 😉

Am I correct in saying that the only facts we have is that MSFS can be pre-ordered, it will be released on 18 August, we have the prices, the aircraft & hand crafted airport list, the PC requirements list & where the DVD set can be pre-ordered, a DVD must be in the player & it's for Europe only, at this stage.

Any other facts I've missed out on?

Glancing through the various discovery series -  which I highly suggest as much info therein got forgotten over time - you'll find more info, e.g. on flight modeling, AI planes, airports (beyond hand-crafted), Photogrammetry areas, and more.

Kind regrads, Michael

If we removed topics like that we'd be accused of censoring discussion. If it doesn't interest you just move on to the next topic.

Thank you, Ray, for a common sense answer. A forum is a place where people come to say their piece.  If it is not toxic, there is no reason to censor any post even if one finds it ridiculous, redundant, uninteresting.

The best way to make forum interesting is not to call for a censorship according to one's own rules of what is worth to read or not, but to bring one's ideas, arguments, experience. So I would say to the poster who brought this obnoxious idea of a censorship, bring them on !

Good Idea to put together a Tips & Tricks sub forum , I would suspect a number of us Alpha testers would have some valuable council to offer up , An Information embargo ends on the 30th for Media, there was a Streaming session last week and an interview this morning that may well flesh out some particulars.

Good Plan to get this set up in anticipation of release so when the NDA is lifted the Alpha Testers can get to work .

I would like to see the alpha crew and fellow devs have a " Field of Beans  " where they can relate anecdotes , that would be interesting ...
