AVSIM Branch restricted to factual MSFS information?

Recommended Posts

I think a technical how to forum like the one for P3D is an excellent idea however I for one greatly enjoy livly discussion and have learned a great deal  from others. Pro con discourse helps with purchase decision and I certainly don't want to see censorship of opinion. IMHO there is already too much of that now and the banning of certain topics altogether which I feel is quite pertainent to the community.

Great idea! It makes much more sense than a "VR" subforum that already exists.

Good Idea to put together a Tips & Tricks sub forum , I would suspect a number of us Alpha testers would have some valuable council to offer up , An Information embargo ends on the 30th for Media, there was a Streaming session last week and an interview this morning that may well flesh out some particulars.

Good Plan to get this set up in anticipation of release so when the NDA is lifted the Alpha Testers can get to work .

I would like to see the alpha crew and fellow devs have a " Field of Beans  " where they can relate anecdotes , that would be interesting ...

Best CJ

Happy to contribute and help fellow simmers 🙂

If we removed topics like that we'd be accused of censoring discussion. If it doesn't interest you just move on to the next topic.

Agree. We should also keep in mind, the Official MSFS forum, should it ever materialize, can be expected to be an "enterprise forum" were, e.g., comparisons between different simulators are not well received. The same goes for the ORBX forum and others. So AVSIM should remain a place where people can compare and debate and it's well possible, I voice my opinion, too - as long as it remains civil.

I only suggested to reserve a place for pure and unbiased information for those neither having the time nor being in the mood to go through all this debate but just wanting to take off and enjoy what they got.

Kind regards, Michael

Some people are already opening topics like "I can't wait!", "I am coming back to MFS". Who cares really? I think a moderator should review the topics before it is open to the public.

It’s a discussion forum so if people can’t express their excitement here around mostly likeminded people then where else can we do it?

My wife is getting tired of hearing me express my excitement 🙂

My sentiments exactly. I know my poor wife wearies of being my sounding board about most everything.

When MSFS will launch on 18 August, AVSIM will probably be flooded by posts like (i) "This sim is complete s**t", (ii) "This sim is the best ever", (ii) "I like this sim better/worse than XP / P3D / FSX", and the like. This can't be avoided and some users may even want to rely their purchase decision on if higher numbers are collected for (i) or (ii). Nothing wrong with that.

However, I would propose a deal: Can we have one subforum strictly restricted to factual information? This refers to questions like "How can I enter outside view?", "Which settings are optimum for photogrammetry cities?", "Where can I activate caching?", etc. etc.

This subforum should be strictly moderated and all questions like the ones in the beginning should get deleted immediately. I have been an MSFS alpha tester from pretty much the beginning and while I am not going to act as a mod, I will gladly help in the fields where I feel competent. However, I am not willing to wade through 10,000 posts with just personal opinion which people are free to vent in the remaining forum branches.

Just a suggestion.

Kind regards, Michael

Any questions or discussion posts should be deleted. More work for us mods!

Not deleted; moved to the Q&A forum for the sim. But yes, more work for us mods. 😉

Don't get me wrong, I am very excited aswell. I just don't think its a great idea to open new topics every time when I want to show my excitement. There are a plenty where you can already write.

I just want to read all the information and discussions here and wait for the release.
