Agree 100%. I think there is a bit too much belittling of those who aren't 'hardcore simmers'. But if it weren't for all the happy-go-lucky chase cam pilots also buying the sim (or any sim game for that matter), the price of said sim(s) would be higher. And look at it this way - whereas a 'clueless, who-cares-about-the-rules' driver can and will spoil the online experience in a motor racing sim (try playing GT Sport with the amount of rammers in many races!), the 'Sunday driver' pilots aren't going to spoil your experience when you take off in MSFS. They still need to be catered for by the devs though, so that they can make sure the sim behaves well for all types and competency levels of purchasers.

I expect to be more heavily invested in this version of Flight Simulator compared to the previous 2 versions, but I'm never likely to be as dedicated as the hardcore pilots.

I'm in no way as knowledgeable, experienced immersion-focussed (or wealthy, clearly!) as some on here, but if I buy the sim, I'm just as entitled to enjoy it however I use it, just as long as I don't spoil the experience for others.

The issue is that when simming in multiplayer, you want other simmers to be 1. Moderately competent and 2. Taking things seriously. It’s actually quite easy to ruin the experience for others, just like in racing sims. See Airforceproud95 versus Pilotedge, for example.

Sorry, I was a bit unclear. I meant that I doubt they were leaked by the testers who took them. So perhaps by other testers? Or hackers? I don‘t know, it just seems a bit unlikely. Some of the leaks are by testers whose screenshots were published by MS, so I guess they’re quite committed. Why would a committed tester do something like that?

You might be right. Those short clips could have been posted at the forums for consideration of inclusion in development updates, which means that anyone else could just grab them and leak them. In the cases of the YouTube videos and the live streams it is the same user causing the breach intentionally, but in other cases it might be impossible to punish the actual leaker. I hope that none of the innocent testers are affected by this. At least this will be over soon.

Regarding the lifting of NDA's...

I've been a beta tester for every Flightsim MS produced since FS98. In every case, the NDA was not lifted until the "Master" was approved (i.e. The version that will be released). FS is currently Alpha. Next comes Beta. Then if it goes the "standard route" of testing, an RC (Release Candidate) is made, then approved, then on to the Master. I would not hold your breath on the NDA being lifted anytime soon. Also, it's very possible that the Alpha builds being released to testers is actually behind the builds that the internal Asobo testers are working with.

Fun Fact:

Back in years past, any screenshots after the NDA was lifted had to be approved by the Mods of Avsim before they were posted. There was a time difference between the Master being made, and when it would hit the shelves. Avsim made sure all of us were actually beta testers before we could post shots.

That's how I always thought the development of MSFS would work, but on Aerosoft forum I read this: "Try to get hundreds of thousands of DVD's pressed and boxes made while Asia was unreachable and most of Europe in lockdown. It was not easy. It was stressful. But it is done and we are able to start shipping soon."

So the boxed version, at least is printed and ready for release, and that includes base scenery and aircraft.  Normally it would have been the Release Candidate that got pressed on DVD, but apparently the developers put most of their effort into the alpha, with the hope that only a limited Beta test would be needed to eliminate the remaining bugs. Does that sound about right?

Since comprehension seems to be something you strongly lack, I'll put it another way:

The NDA probably wont be lifted before release.

Based on the amount of pics and short videos I have found spread all over the web you might be very much right! somebody is leaking them from the forum or in worse case scenario it might have been hacked..

Rumor: NDA lift for press release build. Youtubers and media will be allowed to post content from 30th July.

Might be a good idea to end all this trouble with the leaks. Closed Beta should be really close, if not identical to the RTM build.

Just spotted a screenshot from our own @ryanbatcund so it's pretty much confirmed, sadly it's someone else leaking all of these.

Microsoft needs to fix the screenshot submission system so that only developers have access to them (if it isn’t already setup that way), or else pretty much anyone has free reign to take other simmers’ screenshots and share them with little chance of repercussions for themselves.

Yes, we all hate to see those pictures leaked. I mean, it's not that we can't get enough of them or anything... Glad to see you're keeping up the good work 🙂
