Why do you use FSAerodata?

Recommended Posts

I'm curious, is that because you fly into default airports? What if I don't fly into default airports, and those add-on ones are updated? Or is that because you want to tune in more current frequences?

Thanks.

To have the ground based navaids and airspace aligned to the AIRAC.

TBH the airspace has less value as not many use the default ATC or GPS , I dont

So FSAerodata is mainly for the default airports, gps and ATC, is that right? Just trying to figure out a possible use of it for my flying.

Thanks.

It more or less aligns a navigraph AIRAC with your native sim data.

So all your airspace comms, boundaries, VORs, NDBs are aligned

Try aerosors 1st as Herve offers similar as freeware, if you want more then FSaero expands on this

For the most part, that is true. However, a number of 3rd party airport developers do not provide timely updates that sync with the latest AIRAC. Eventually, these airports will have different procedures, etc. than what your FMS uses. It's not a big issue, but it could get confusing. For the few 3rd party airports that are out of date, one could always edit them with Airport Design Editor. For my 3rd party airports that are out of date, I rely on the information in fsaerodata when I edit the airport's ADE file. I should add that waypoints, airspace boundaries and naviads also can get out of date and fsaerodata prevents that from happening also.

Of course, one could put the fsaerodata files as the highest priority in your scenery library and then they would override all the information in both stock and 3rd party airports. There are some drawbacks to doing so and you should consult the fsaerodata official support forum for more details.

Unless runways are added or taken out of use, or key navaids are decommissioned in the real world along with the linked procedures, I don't think instrument approach procedures will make any difference to the airport scenery in the sim.

The main use of updated navdata is so if you're using real-world instrument procedures in the sim, all your navaid frequencies are up to date and match the charts. Herve Sors' excellent freeware navdata adds and removes VORs, NDBs, DMEs and ILSes as required. It's best used in conjunction with real world charts: Navigraph offers access to Jeppesen plates while many countries offer their AIPs online for free now.

Seems like we can kiss it goodbye with MSFS. 😃

& might i add, Voxatc uses approach data from one's afcad & if not updated (by fsaerodata or directly on the afcad) will not match the arrival data of the LDS airac used for that part.

other payware ATC use the airac for all (SID's, STARS' & IAP's).

I wouldn't bet on that. MS won't update your navi data for free every month.

I suspect that the navdata will be like a cable TV subscription that comes with temporary free access to Disney+ or HBO Max.

I am assuming that it will just be part of a Navigraph partnersip. It will just update like other add ons.

NavBlue (I think that's the name) provides the nav data for FS2020... they've not provided any further detail as to how it's defined.  I suspect there will be no third party products that can update the actual sim.  Of course, they can feel free to prove me wrong and allow it.  Not gonna hold my breath though. 🙂

One thing to bear in mind is that FSAerodata and Aivlasoft EFB v2 don't play well together.

https://forum.aivlasoft.com/topic/3887-fsaerodata-is-not-compatible-with-efb-v2/

So what does this mean, that you can navigraph update Aivlasoft to the latest cycle but never P3D's aerodata ?
