Resigning from X-Plane 11.50 or P3Dv5

OK guys I know this is mostly P3Dv5 forum, but I spent 50% of time in X-Plane 11 and 50% of time in P3Dv4 now v5. Flying IFRs got 2 sims maxed. PMGD/FSLab/Majestic and in X-Plane Toliss/Zibo/FlightFactor and almost all payware sceneries including ORBX and X-Plane with Ortho4XP too sitting on NAS 20TB with 10Gbit/s local LAN connection.

Of course I bought MS FS2020 and was thinking, that for some time MS FS2020 will have to mature. I am a guy who flies both sims. Love X-Plane and love P3Dv5. Each has pros/cons. If you have to kill one sim, as you're flying mostly IFRs on VATSIM, which one will it be?

I would not kill anyone of them.

I don't have either, but if I loved both, I would keep them both. Install MSFS, see how it affects your time in the other sims, then delete one or both depending on your thoughts then.

Why would you kill a sim?

I don't understand this constant need to have as few flight sims as possible to choose from. 🤔

I would keep x-plane. That sim is improving much faster than p3d.

While I personally own many flight sims, I typically only keep 1 sim installed for a period of time and for me it's due to how different the flight physics are between the different sims. If your priority is to become as proficient as possible with only a couple planes, then that becomes frustrating if you split your time between 2 completely different physics engines. The aircraft behave and react differently in each sim, thus requiring different amounts of input and even different types of input, depending upon the plane.

This is not to mention all the quality of life differences there can be (commands, features, camera usage, views, etc) which can make things more time consuming for some.

As far as the question of which would I uninstall? No way I could even begin to answer that at this point in time as I have not yet used the new sim. If it pleases me alot more than what I have then I'd switch. If it doesn't then I wont... or, if I like them both equally then I may spend a year in 1 and the next year in the other 🙂

You can, or course, resign from either sim, but common courtesy would dictate that you provide Lockheed Martin or Laminar Research with two week’s notice so that they will have time to find a new customer to replace you...

Look at it this way.. P3D is derived from ESP and all the ESP devs are migrating to MSFS either soon or eventually.. X-Plane offers something very different.. its very fluid, great flight phyiscs, impressive night lighting, OSM roads with really good car traffic, orthos, helicopters, VR, etc.. so it can be a parallel sim for sometime..

You will not miss P3D when you migrate to MSFS as all the ESP devs will bring their wares to the MSFS marketplace.. but you will miss out on the lovely zibo or helis etc.. i don't see many XP devs flocking to MSFS yet.. maybe the SDK is too different compared to the jump from P3d to MSFS.. 

But in the long run, MSFS has enough muscle and clout to fill all the gaps it currently has and triumph as the only sim you'll ever need..

Not at all and not exclusively. There is still a large market out there for the other sims and the dev's need to tap those markets. After the initial push I think MSFS2020 will just settle into place and another very good sim. It may become the leader, time will tell but the others are not going out of business any time soon.

While I will still keep P3D and XP11 installed, I have mostly stopped buying additional content for them since shortly after being admited into MSFS's Alpha.

DCS + MSFS is the way forward for me.

Exactly...

I like sims...with car sims I had a ton of them (Assetto Corsa, PCars, Game Stock Car, Codemasters...Grid....F1....Rally etc.), which divided my time. Although some did things better than others, I had to just settle on one to focus on / master that gave me the best overall experience...PCars.

Flight sims (especially with tweaking, addons, updates & compatibility etc), trying to mange both P3D and XP became more of a hassle....I really just need one sim to give me the best overall experience.

MSFS is just that sim for civil flight, and DCS World for combat flight.

For me, I will never look back to the days of multiple addons to get half the experience that MSFS provides stock. P3D and XP are so outdated and behind, I can't imagine looking their way over the next versions, if they get that far along.

I am planning to keep XP and remove P3Dv5 as I barely used it since I got to know X-Plane last year and also, it has been very annoying on my machine with vram. This space of P3D, will be utilized for MSFS 😉

Easy choice for me, if I had to get rid of one sim it would be P3D. Started on the ESP platform with FSX and then P3Dv3 and P3Dv4. Somewhere along the way, X-Plane over took it as my sim of choice. So much so that I didn't bother to do the upgrade to P3Dv5. Didn't see the value in it. Still have V4 on my machine but I'm in the process of getting the parts for a new build. P3D wont be coming back. X-Plane maybe for a while but looking at the videos and now the announcements of third party stuff its future doesn't look to bright either.

Just need some small regional jets, like CRJ's and Dash 8's then I will have no reason to go back to an older platform.
