Do you think my computer will run MSFS 2020 at a playably?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

my specs are:
Intel Core i5-3470 3.2GHz
RAM 16GB DDR3
GPU RX 550 4GB
HDD 3TB

I am mostly concerned about GPU, because minimum requirement is RX 590 which is like over 200% better than my RX550 (according to GPU user benchmarks). GPU is going to be a bottle neck, but all in all I believe I have a solid machine. However, FSX does not run smoothly on my PC, I have average of 35 FPS.

What do you think, should I give MSFS2020 a try with my machine? I am very tempted. :D

Apparently there is a gamepass promo for $1 for the first month and it can be cancelled after that. If true that seems a better way to "try it out". The graphic options seem highly configurable so you may be able to get something acceptable to you out of it.

Like stated try the Game Pass for a month, that is what I am going to do, to see how it run's on my system. I should be fine on Medium but want to make sure before I pay $60.00 - $120 as I haven't decided which version to get, although I do know now I am getting it on Steam now! If it works properly on my system!

Yeah, that'll run it. Won't be blistering speedy graphics turned all the way up and load times might be a bit slow with DDR3 RAM shoving the data around, but it'll do the job and probably better than you've got any right to expect.

Your GPU is going to hold you back.

In my opinion you need 8MB or better.

This should be in the hardware forum.

your gpu is well under spec, it may 'play' it but it would not do well performance wise, literally less than half of what MS feels is minimally required to enjoy the game
here is a comparison of the Minimum required GPU vs yours

like others have suggested, i would not purchase yet with that system unless you plan to upgrade soon - try it on GamePass first at the very least but dont expect much

I would be inclined to give it a shot, and if it can run at a level you're prepared to tolerate, then I'd sling some more RAM in for a comparatively cheap boost to how it does.

Everyone has different levels of acceptability.  Try game pass for $1

I have no problem with buying a better graphic card but the problem with more powerful ones is that they are bigger and they simply do not fit into my case. They would also interfere with sata cables. That is the issue for me unfortunately. :(

What is a game pass?

(ok I know now)

Is there a game pass on steam? I see only pre purchase option.

i checked the information on the internet so Ido not ask unnecessary question

Do you think it would give me a little bit better playing experience in contrast to FSX? (I mean I do not expect 4K graphics, but upgraded scenery, nature and cities is something I am looking for).

Game Pass is only on the Microsoft store

At the risk to repeat the obvious:

1- specs don't mean much if the display isn't included.

2- MSFS can be tried for a month at $1 with the GamePass (it's been stated above but I sense that we really need to pin a dedicated post).

you can try it on game pass for pc even if you want it on steam, think of gamepass as netflix for video games you just rent them for a monthly subscription
right now you can get GP for like a dollar for a 1  month trail, after that you can cancel and buy where ever you want
no one can say for sure how your pc will run the game for certain so ^ that is really your best option
i fear it would be a slide show, judging by the specs they gave us, but we are all just guessing

Edit:  removed, incorrect info

In terms of the potential for simulating flight, yes. Even if you turn the graphics down to the point where it looks like FS98 on the lowest settings, it is still going to be simulating flight and the effect of the air movement better than any other flight sim. This is more important than pretty graphics.
