Transatlantic TBM crossing

Recommended Posts

Good morning,

This might be slightly offtopic but somehow connected to the upcoming MSFS.

On FR24 i just observed a TBM7 crossing the Atlantic Ocean nonstop from Teterboro to Limerick in Ireland. This is definately something i am going to be looking into when MSFS is out. 😛

Best regards,

Tom

Interesting. In google earth that is about 2700 nm which is 1000 nm further than the max range of the TBM900 (approx 1700nm at max fuel at FS310). So they had to be using extra fuel tanks. In other words it's not something we can do "out of the box" in MSFS without "cheating".

Thats my thought too. Also they were cruising at FL330 which if i'm not mistaken is 2000' higher than the normal Ceiling.

And it seems like they had pretty good tailwind too.

Yeah looked like some sort of delivery flight or something like that.

Good catch.  If it was a ferry flight then they'd probably carry extra fuel tanks in the fuselage and may even have special authorization to take off overweight.  I've read about that kind of thing happening fairly often.

That was great, Bottle!  When the video first started, I thought it was MSFS, then the camera shake let me know it was real.   A few of the views out their window looked a lot like our sim.

Yep, get yourself some of these.

The way I do it is to take passengers and baggage of the equivalent fuel weight and chuck them out as the fuel burns. Ruthless, I know - but if we sim we have to sim correct weights + balances. Them's the rules.

As long as you do it over the ocean, who will know? 😄

Thanks for the pic of the fuel bladder. I've read about them many times, but didn't know what they looked like.

Hope they had a good plan for bathroom usage...

Carrying extra fuel containers of different kinds is a popular thing to do when ferry flying.

That's why this sim needs bears. To eat the evidence.

And Sharks. Sharks with fricking laserbeams.

You can do Prestwick to Reykjavik to Narsasuaaq than Canada.
