Out of those two, Steam, absolutely.

Though I would prefer more options and especially being able to get it off GOG.

Steam for me. I don’t like not being able to access my game folders. The relevant WindowsApps folder won’t even open despite my setting read & write permissions on it.

A friend has actually bought the "boxed" version - 12 DVDs + Manual... Wow!

Still haven't decided, unfortunately. I still have no idea if the platform makes a difference for VR support, for example.

Microsoft has their own official WMR on Steam, so support on there is a given. However, SteamVR is very open and very moddable, so there's a good chance someone's able to bridge that support and get around that early G2 support they have going, make all headsets work regardless.

This is the best option in case Microsoft pulls a 'FLIGHT' and discontinues the franchise down the road like they've done in the past (look how long many of us kept FS9 around, that would never happen with this version).  When Microsoft is done your done... I want to get the boxed set but I live in the States.  Not a fan of so called owning something in the cloud with bean counters changing things based on the bottom line (turning the sim into something it wasn't intended in the chase for the dollar).  For the record I just officially retired FS9, only possible if you own the CD's.

To answer the poll question I bought the software on MS's site with a game pass.  In the next few months we need to see how this plays out (add-ons release via game pass etc).  I chose Microsoft's site to show support for this effort as they are keeping track on play and usage.  No second guessing how often we use it and it should stick around.

You need to change the ownership of the folder to do that. Think it is in the security tab.

It is, and I tried to. But it doesn’t work for that folder specifically. Don’t know why.

The content will not be in the WindowsApps folder. Also, there are rather clear directions already posted on how to gain access to this folder, but there is no compelling reason to have access anyway except perhaps curiosity!

Even with the boxed version you will need an Xbox account and your licence (as well as the latest simulator version) will be checked online with each start-up. The DVDs do not even include the simulator, only the content. That will have to be downloaded from the Microsoft Store, it's about 1GB.

If they pull the plug then you should expect that the online scenery, live weather and traffic as well as multiplayer will be shut down, with the rest of the simulator remaining intact. Microsoft Flight was a special case because Microsoft decided to shut down the entire Games for Windows Live initiative along with it.

They have too much control over our hobby now.  This is the point of others concerning competition.  Only problem is sims like P3D and XPlane might want to look to Google for their scenery base line if they want to stay in the game.  Microsoft just annihilated all competition with this one. I would love to have decent choices considering the communities history with Microsoft but there's no comparable alternatives now.

Undecided. Errors at MS Store meant I had to cancel that order, but not wild about steam. Going to wait for awhile after the release.
