confusion about buying msfs 2020 for pc not xbox

Featured Replies

I am a little concerned that I will buy the wrong version of this software.  It seems that every link for the pre-order eventually leads to a screen with the xbox logo on it - or xbox live.  (even if I select the pc games option) . I want to play on PC and will likely never have an xbox or game pass.  Is there a chance I could buy the wrong version.  Is the xbox logo just advertising?

xbox is the "branding" under which Microsoft publish its games.

There is no xbox version available to order or preorder, so you can't go wrong. Windows 10 is the only version you can possibly buy as of now

This sounds like a windup. The Microsoft Store page clearly states Available on PC.

Simply said, there is no Xbox console version and Microsoft said yesterday there is no date scheduled to release one.

But what about GamePass? I thought I saw posts saying that this was needed.

Gamepass is a gaming subscription service by Microsoft. You can think of it like something similar to Netflix, just for videogames. MS Flight Simulator is included in that, so if you have a Gamepass subscription, you can play the standard edition of MSFS. However, you can also simply buy MSFS in one of its three editions, there's no need for Gamepass at all, it's just a separate option to use it.

To confuse everyone MS changes the name of their PC gaming division every other year. So at the company Christmas party last year someone won a free drink ticket with the completely confusing proposal to call what was previously called something no one remembers (but in the line of Games for Windows) - the "Xbox Games Studio". And they make quite a bunch of games that only run on a PC and not Xbox...

Confused? Wait until the next Christmas party 🙂

As the sim is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, buing it for the PC now means you will also be able to run it on the Xbox when that version is released. At least if you buy it from the Microsoft Store. Not sure if buying through Steam will be covered.

At this Christmas party 2020, they are changing the name to X-Plane Game Pass 🙂 Sorry, I just had too! Bad joke, I know! Too confuse people even more!

That was actually a great question, and you got some great information too. There are a lot of NEW people getting ready to purchase or try and purchase this game that are either brand new to flight sim, or haven't been following it's progress like we have. Let's help them all out! Like people did earlier in this thread!

Welcome back to flight simulation, or Welcome to flight simulation! It's a great hobby!

Windbag, this is low energy trolling. Back to r/flightsim with you, now, sir.

In case you guys think I'm being harsh here, I spend a lot of time on r/flightsim - and the guys were talking about annoying Avsim users with this question a couple of days back. From memory, the guy who said he was going to post this to annoy us did so in the thread about triggering Wobbie by calling it "MSFS 2020" (!)

First post, calls himself "windbag". Yeah...nah. Trolling, and not very good trolling, I rate it a 1/10.

For anyone who's interested, pop over to r/flightsim and type "Avsim" into the search bar. Then you'll see what I mean. (I'd link to the thread in question, but it's seriously toxic so some people may have a happier day without reading it!).
