What is the install path of msfs?

Recommended Posts

Hmm this is strange, I don't have WpSystem folder anywhere on my PC, I created my own MSFS directory in my D drive and im installing into there. Do I need the WpSystem folder for the sim to install properly? I purchased the sim from the MS store. I may have deleted that folder a few months back it does sound familiar. Let me know what I should do, as for now the sim seems to be installing fine to my custom MSFS folder. I have both "community and Official" subfolders in it.

Hi guys.

I am getting totally lost here. I haven’t installed the sim yet because I am puzzled how to install it on a different drive and into specific folder.

Do I have to do steps suggested by Microsoft first to change the default app installation drive like: System > Storage. Change where new content is saved under More storage settings then select 😧 drive (or the drive of my choice)?

When I get these steps done will the installer install everything just on the drive I specify or it will offer to select specific folder as well? Or it will just install everything on the dive I specify and then I will need to move everything it installed into the folder I want? Very confusing.

Thanks for looking.

What you should do is create a folder on the drive you want to install the sim to. I called my folder MSFS2020 on a clean (empty) SSD. When you start the download process, you get asked where you want to install. Simply change the default installation path (which will be to your C:) and select the new folder you just created on the drive of your choice. The install will then download to that folder.
Im not sure about the MS store installation but there are TWO separate downloads for Steam. The first is around 532MB Steam files and the second is the 91GB FS download. I installed both to my E drive, in different folders.

Well FWIW, when I d/l the initial stub a week ago, it installed on my C drive. I went into settings APPS and located it, right click and select MOVE - then I put it on my F drive.  Last night I just clicked the shortcut on desktop and the d/l started - it went to the location I had specified.

IAC, if it's NOT where you want, go into settings/APPS and right click  - that will show you where it is now - if you don't like it , move it.

I changed where store apps should be installed to the drive I wanted and the installer added several files. Which one of those are MSFS2020 files and can I move them to my MSFS folder?

Also, where is the exe file to start the sim? Cannot find it.

For what it's worth, Microsoft support has posted this article about moving your installation (https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015910560-Can-I-choose-or-change-the-installation-path-). I do not know that this really works because I am still installing.

The move function is no longer available, so this isn't even accurate.

Vic. Can I ask how you are getting a move option? I go to the Apps and Features page and see all the installed apps, but right clicking on them does nothing. If I left click on it I just get the option to uninstall. The modify button is greyed out on all of them. I am logged in as administrator.

Just went to win 10 from win 7 2 weeks ago, and I have to say, I hate win 10. its just a nightmare to do anything in this hot mess.

Sorry, it is left click . Are you logged on to your MS account? That might affect it. I definitely have a modify button. I suspect permissions issues.

Hmm. I guess I'm logged. My user profile definitely shows me as admin.

Yes but is it your MICROSOFT account? The one you ordered MSFS from. I *believe* you need to be in that account.

You can log in to your local account as admin but it's not the same as your MS account.

Bummer. Maybe try googling the problem. I agree it's a w10 issue.

edit:  give this a shot - use the Storage area

Well, My win 10 install is two weeks old, so it shouldn't be corrupted. Everything is up to date, And Google wasn't any help. Oh well, it is what it is.

Thanks for the help.
