Happy to see NVlink works/Multi-gpu

First of all, thank you for asking as a gentleman would, you obviously understand that at Avsim we have ethics and respect for others.

Hopefully this link helps you discern what to do from a hardware perspective after Nvidia announces specifications and pricing for the new product line.

Hi Frank. Sorry to say that, as expected, this shows a GPU usate of 99% for one card and 19% of the second, confirming that SLI is not used. Moreover you can notice a huge difference in the two cards temperature and clock, confirming that the second one is basically NOT working. About your private message ("I don’t believe 2070 cards work with Nvlink I am sorry to say.") I have to specify that I own two 2070 SUPER that share the same chip of 2080 and 2080 SUPER, that have the NVLINK connector, and thus are SLI/NVLINK enabled. I'm so sorry to say that your SLI configuration (as mine) is completely useless until someone prove otherwise.

Have a nice gaming with your single GPU rig (from the MSFS2020 perspective obviously)!

Clearly, you don’t know how to spell!

I have flying to do, so we won’t worry about what you think (or not) the image I posted clearly shows both cards being utilized.

Have a nice day, and welcome to our community, I’m sure your here for the long haul...🤣

Pot. Kettle. Black. It's you're* 🙂

Not to dispute what MSI shows, but why would the performance monitor show the single card performing at 157% over New York City, utilization of 6.2 gb more memory than a single gtx2080ti card has when it displays 17.2 gb being used.

I am not running any other gpu intensive applications in the background for sure.

The bottom line for me is that if it doesn’t work now, maybe at some point it will.  If not, I can certainly replace the Titan X in my other PC, or sell them both when it suits me and install the new 3xxx if I choose.  I make or lose a lot more than that on a single trade in my portfolio, so it’s only money!

I'm not sure what that program is or where it's pulling its information from and how it interprets it.

But judging by the GPUz screen shots it's showing one of two cards barely utilized (background)/idling.

If the new 3080ti is 40% faster, time for an upgrade and discard the dual card set up. As far as I know, NVlink has been a failure, no?

Here's the kicker, everyone who has a RTX 2080Ti  right now will tell you, There isn't a modern CPU in existence today that is powerful enough to drive an RTX 2080Ti in MSFS. The problem will be even worst with an RTX 3080Ti. This is until MSFS port their engine into a low level api like DX12 and implement DLSS. When that happen, RTX 3080Ti for flight simulator will make a difference.  Until than, if you by a RTX 3080Ti,  you will get better use of it in other games.

It is the window + g key then select performance, but nothing else is running that would be using gpu for sure.  The original screen shot was from KEKM on the runway, so not much going on there graphically speaking, New York is a whole different story.

Yeah I don't know how much I would trust that. I have no idea where it's pulling the numbers from.

GPUz and Afterburner are well known and trusted apps and I would be more inclined to believe them than whatever windows is trying to show. They show that one of the cards is pulling roughly 250w vs the other which is pulling 50w or less and indicates 200mhz on memory which indicates that the board is idling.

It would be awesome if NVlink worked in Msfs, however, in this particular example that doesn't appear to be the case. I wish I could test it but I'm not in position to drop 2k+ to satisfy my curiosity hehe. Guess I'll be waiting for 30xx single card solution.

Here is my last pic, again from Teterboro to New York.

I used Riva Tuner to show the relevant stats on the screen from MSI afterburner.

Across the top it is:

Temp/gpu utilization/Fan Speed %

the bottom is obviously memory use per gpu.

I setup a custom fan curve on GPU 1 to bring the temp down as it was way too high.  I thank you for pointing that out.

it looks to share the memory of both gpu’s from the report, and uses what it needs from a processor stand point.  Obviously something is working from looking at the Afterburner stats, no?

GPU2 is idle , seems that MSFS not work its behave like in XP11

thanks for testing

How do explain the Shared memory usage?

Turn NV link off and see what performance you get with one card. I would wager it'll be the same. Or within margin of error.

For example, fly the lading challenge for Sydney and see what FPS you get. Just fly straight for a minute or minute and half (let everythjng load).

I'm running twin RTX 2080 TIs in NVLINK also with a Core i9-9820X (12/24 cores) and all OS and data coming off SSD drives.  My cards are enabled for SLI in nVidia's Control Panel and while running MSFS 2020 at 4K my GPU 0 shows a fluctuating 70's to 80's to 90's percent usage and even peaks briefly at 100% usage while my GPU 1 shows anywhere from 7% to 14% max usage only.  I tried making the three suggested changes to the two GPU settings in nVidia Profile Inspector but the performance of both cards was significantly lowered in both the nVidia SLI format and in the disengaged format so I reset those changes and just went with SLI with NVLINK.

My 32GB of DDR system memory was way too limited though as the ultra setting preflight data loads took up to 27GB (my Win 10 64bit OS takes up around 5GB) and then slows down significantly as it swaps to multi-GB SSD drive program cache assignments on other drives.  So I just ordered 96GB more memory as my ASUS WS X299 Sage motherboard can handle 128GB.  So in the meantime I've had to run in High settings only but even then the imagery looks quite stunning on my 65" HP 4K HDR monitor.

I'm looking forward to what I heard somewhere was this sim's upcoming DX12 and SLI support and I hope the latter was not just a rumor.

Yes!!!!

Just what I wanted to hear!

What PSU are you running them on?  Heard new PSU's are coming with 12pin power connectors for the 3090ti's.

Now bring on the twin 3090ti's at $1,400.00 a piece and full ULTRA Settings!!!
