What the heck was going on in Alpha/Beta?

How do you gain access to the SDK? I’d like to edit the taxiway names at my home airport.

I've been messing with the SDK the last 2 days.  I am getting ready to start working on airports.  However.....  currently there is no way to go in and just make adjustments to a default airport.  Asobo does not want adjustments to be made to the default files or airports.  In order to work on an airport you have to exclude what is there and re-create the airport from scratch.  There is also alot of new techniques and new tools in the sim to learn.  Basically other than 3d modeling outside of the sim the airport and scenery design is completely different in this sim than what we were doing before.  The documentation right now is also very basic and does not answer alot of questions.  The SDK version that is available now is like 0.5.0 so I'd say it's pretty early.  I will say that I am liking the scenery editing tools in the sim because you can work in real time and see what you are doing.

Bottom line is everyone is going to have to have some patience...  I am by no means an expert and I am just scratching the surface of the SDK.  I have alot to continue to learn and figure out.  I also think that the elite 3rd party developers are probably way ahead in the process because they have been communicating and using the SDK for awhile now.  I hope they throw us a bone down here and can help us figure things out a little quicker...

Just tried letting the AI fly the cessna CJ4. It overspeeds and overtemps the ITT!  Pretty funny.

At least the scenery pretty!

Whats more amazing I filed an airspeed indicator bug early in the beta and it was never fixed. DR400 does not cruise at 200KTS! Likewise the Cub does not cruise at 200KTS!

But they do at 200 km/h which is the unit of the gauge...

ROFL!  I bet he's feeling pretty sheepish about now...  or he'll double down and claim that you're wrong, even though we can all read the gauge...

details people, details.

But the question is, should the gauge be reading KM/H?   Last I check, aviation uses KTS.

and last I checked the robin's airspeed gauge has a small green ring on the inside of the larger km/hr ring which reads airspeed in knots...  and that ring doesn't go to 200...

You can rename the shortcut on your desktop to “Microsoft Flight Simulator -Beta” if that helps 😄

Tell me about it... I thought I was doing fine coming into the final at 60kts on that thing on my first flight a few days ago. The crash landing into a forest 400 meters before the runway was spectacular.

Knots is standard for high performance aircraft, but not necessarily for GA.

I have worked on plenty of older American-made GA aircraft that have airspeed indicators marked in statute miles per hour rather than knots. MPH was standard for most new Piper and Cessna aircraft until the late 1960s. At that time, if you wanted an airspeed indicator in knots, you would have to pay extra for it.

The DR-400 is a French airplane, and often used as a trainer. Many smaller GA aircraft built in Europe use airspeed indicators marked in km/hr. Almost all European cars use km/hr on their speedometers so it is a unit of measurement that a European pilot, (especially a beginner), would intuitively relate to from previous experience driving automobiles.

Thanks Brandon for useful information. In several of the default small airfields in MSFS its wrong coating. Airstrips that in RW are gravel or grass are paved with asphalt. As far as I understad from you Brandon it possible to change?

I missed that little detail! I figured it out a few hours ago as I was looking at some of the other steam gauge planes. The color arcs do not look correct. In the savage cub at normal cruise speed I am at the the upper limit of the Caution Range. And if I pitch the nose down a little I am operating in the Red Arc.

Hi Brandon, I'm having a simlar problem editing aircraft too using the SDK. I put it down to my misunderstanding of the editor. The documentation says load the aircraft and it automatically opens in the "aircraft editot". But nothing happens. There are no parameters to edit. There is a debug mode which is just a list, and there's a blanked out "save and reset" which is supposed to reload the aircraft with the edits. This would be much easier than doing what I am at the moment, which is to quit the sim, edit the aircraft manually in a text format then reload the entire sim. So each edit takes about 15 minutes, when it should take 30 seconds.

Are you finding the same thing with airports?

Brandon

Step by step guide please 😁

How do I exclude a non existent airport that is a big grass field ?

...And then build runways and include ILS data that will be read by the sim's Nav database ? And will it be overridden when the default database is updated?

So many questions !

Do we really want to go back 😏

Yes if I'm in my Dash 8 between crafted airports with GSX and Radar Contact.... And, fully customisable weather from Active Sky with random themes.

It may not look as good per se.... But at least it looks different EVERY time I fly a route.

P3D is going nowhere for me... Not for a long while.

I think MSFS will only ever be a "sit in front of a 65 inch OLED with an Xbox controller in my hand" thang !

Time will tell.

With or without Orbx PNW ?

Interesting point.

When I upgrade my PC I'm trying OrbX TrueEarth before anything else.

Combined with everything else I have in P3D... Overall at the moment, it's a better experience for the 'hardcore badass simmer' that I am !
