Reverse Thrust

This is exactly what happens on my Logitech TQ (attached to the yoke). When I pull the throttle into reverse detent, the [z] shows up in the box but disappears when I click validate. 

If I select the [z] manually in the list and click validate, it does not disappear after validating but reverse thrust still doesn’t work. 

Assigning another button to toggle reverse thrust does work but pushing the throttle forward to control the force of reverse it is unrealistic and feels ... unnatural. I’ll keep testing other ideas.

I have it working now. Assigning Logitech/Saitek throttle quadrant to [z] for ‘Decrease Throttle’ was the ticket. Now, when going into the detent position, the throttles slide into reverse.

Note that using the TQ to assign the function still doesn’t work for me. Doing so makes the [z] disappear when validating (as mentioned above). But by selecting it from the list, it sticks when I validate.

I have the same set up on my CH Products quadrant and it works perfectly well. I have two throttle axis and two propeller axis set up. To get the throttles to reverse, I press a switch on the controller under the levers and then push them back up as required. Then hit the switch again to return to return to "throttle mode". To get props to feather, I do the same with another switch. I don't know why they don't just make prop feathering a part of the propellor pitch axis, unless I am missing something. 

If I recall correctly, previously with FSUIPC, this could be done without the need for pressing buttons as you can define two ranges on a single axis. So the range above detent controls throttle and range below detent controls reverse.

You recall correctly, and I'm waiting for either Asobo to support his approach or for FSUIPC to get past the SimConnect bug that kills FPS and adds stutter.

In FSX/P3D it was easy to set reverse with a Saitek throttle quadrant because each lever generates a button closure when the lever is pulled fully back, and you can assign the button to generate the “decrease throttle fully” command (the equivalent of holding the F2 key).

But, the thing I have never liked about the FSX method of emulating reverse is that it is “all or nothing”. Once the reversers deploy you get full reverse thrust every time.

MSFS works more like X-Plane. You can assign a button for “toggle reverse”, which has the effect of deploying or stowing the reversers, and the amount of reverse thrust is controlled by throttle position.

Operationally, that is more realistic, because real aircraft do not always use full reverse thrust on landing. On longer runways they may use partial reverse or even just idle reverse.

It’s unrealistic in the sense that you are controlling the amount of reverse by pushing the throttle forward, which feels counterintuitive.

My own preference is to be able to control the amount of applied reverse thrust.

The current problem in MSFS is the reverse function works on every airplane. It should be limited to only those models that actually have reversers (A320 and 747 but NOT the CJ-4), or reversible props (King Air but NOT the Baron).

I removed reverse thrust from the CJ4 in my mod 😉

I just kill the throttle with the joystick/quadrant then start tapping F2. Always have.  works fine.

Nice! Every day we are seeing more and more end-user fixes to some of the more glaring errors in the default aircraft, and as people become more familiar with the SDK, the pace of mods will undoubtedly increase.

It is different to FSX/P3D.  There is an option to TOGGLE reverse thrust, difference being you press a key/button to toggle reverse but then push your throttle FORWARD to engage the reversers, once slowed down press your key/button to TOGGLE the reversers off.  This means you can apply a little bit or a lot depending on scenario.

I set my throttle to idle and set it to 'Z' but it does not register into the controls. The box is left blank. 

I set it and it says 'Joystick L-Axis Z+' but even as I do that, when I try to activate reverse thrust, it does this weird thing when it goes back and forth between regular thrust and reverse thrust.

I tried setting up reverse thrust with keyboard controls as well but the same thing happens.

I know this post was ages ago but took me quite a bit of time how to figure this out - no BS with assigning buttons or pushing lever up to get reverse which is not ideal - this works correctly

Here is directions let me know if you have any questions

This was done with the A320 in mind guys should work on similar aircraft  - keep in mind each throttle can be used together - its reverse that lives on its own

For instance if you had Boeing 747 I would assume You would assign throttle 1 thru throttle 4 all on the same axis / each axis represents a throttle in your aircraft depending on how many it has

This is functionality for one lever 🙂 works great
