...a set up suggestion: The best of two worlds...

Featured Replies

Folks,  suggest you fly MSFS at HIGH, but with putting both the OBJECTS and TERRAIN sliders to full right, or 200%.

This is now how I run MSFS:   Default HIGH, but with four  custom settings...both the TERRAIN and OBJECT sliders at full right or 200 %.  The A.F.  from 8 to 16, and Terrain Shadows from 512 to 1024.  That will give you kick-butt graphics...and the same for FPS  obtainment, and smoothness of animation performance.  Truly it is a Set n' Forget...after that..no more fooling around...just fly, and be amazed at what's under your wings...

Then press APPLY, and SAVE,  and you have a custom setup that will give you great FPS performance, BUT...will give you what most would look for, wishing to run ULTRA...the most complicated and fullest rendition of terrain and auto-gen/forests upon it.  My suggestion will do that for you.

Thanks, will try. I know you like to live with risky slider settings 🙂

Hans

Thanks! I will try.

I think you will like the 'break' the default HIGH gives you...but what really gives those ULTRA visuals...are those two sliders...put to 200 %.  The TERRAIN and the OBJECTS.  The other (I think..) important one, is that you boost the Terrain Shadow from 512, to 1024. That really kicks it up, visually, but doesn't 'kick down' your FPS expectations.  My flight from LOWI to that town in Germany, had my settings generating the flight.  I've tried since the 18th, so many graphic permutations....and found that all of the HIGH settings, except for the four that I chose to up the ante...gave me as I said, the 'best' of both worlds...good FPS...but hitting on about 75-80 percent of the Ultra visuals.  I am now at the hard baked, MSFS set n' forget.  Will just fly the MSFS skies... 🙂

Cheers,

You're most right...I always did push P3D to the limits on my older system.  Yep...

I agree, this is what I've found is the best compromise for visual quality and performance.

Hi Buddy hope all is well

Agreed on this generally, I started with the high preset and then moved a few items to ultra: buildings, trees, terrain and something else I’m forgetting right now.

Current System (Running at 4k): ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F, Ryzen 7800X3D, RTX 5090, 55" Samsung Q80T, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, EVGA CLC 280mm AIO Cooler, Brunner CLS-E NG Yoke, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS & Stick, Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant & Add-on, VirtualFly Ruddo+, TQ6+ and Yoko+, GoFlight MCP-PRO and EFIS, Skalarki FCU and MCDU

And if you run in 4K, use TAA at 80%. Almost no visible loss (very minor) but significant boost in the FPS (at least with a 2070S).

I assume that you mean the Render Scaling slider at 80%. 🙂

It looks nice, but then I get a whole lot of autogen popping (mostly batches of distant trees). Just like in good old FSX.

OP... this did wonders. I was around 35 FPS, now 45 and I think everything looks better. Cheers

This works very well for me with a GTX 1060 card, and First Gen i7 processor, but fans are a lot noisier - presumably on graphics card.

Shockingly, I have found that my system runs BETTER in MSFS at Ultra settings!  When I go medium or high-end, it stutters like crazy.  I haven't the slightest clue why but I am not complaining!   Loving the sim now that I've found this.  Uninstalled P3D and X-Plane 11.  No going back now.
