I haven't the slightest clue why but I am not complaining! Loving the sim now that I've found this. Uninstalled P3D and X-Plane 11. No going back now. i7-6700K/RTX 2070 Super My potato defaulted to medium, but I tried high and dropped one setting (Don't remember the name) from 100 to 90. , Now the system runs smoother. No 4k scenery here, but I have much better visuals and smoother sim than I ever had with FSX or PP3d 4 or 5. Robin

This is now how I run MSFS: Default HIGH, but with four custom settings...both the TERRAIN and OBJECT sliders at full right or 200 %. The A.F. from 8 to 16, and Terrain Shadows from 512 to 1024. That will give you kick-butt graphics...and the same for FPS obtainment, and smoothness of animation performance. Truly it is a Set n' Forget...after that..no more fooling around...just fly, and be amazed at what's under your wings... Then press APPLY, and SAVE, and you have a custom setup that will give you great FPS performance, BUT...will give you what most would look for, wishing to run ULTRA...the most complicated and fullest rendition of terrain and auto-gen/forests upon it. My suggestion will do that for you. Thx for the suggestion...but what resolution? My Youtube Channel (P3D/FSX/X-Plane Videos and much more!)

August 21, 20205 yr Great tip. FPS with Ultra settings is 25-30. With what you recommend the FPS is 34-40 and I can't tell the difference in how it looks. (1920x1200). August 21, 20205 yr I'm not convinced the various settings are all just placebo. I swear I tried High End and Ultra, and mixed, and 80% resolution scaling and always had around 30-40fps. I'm not sure what's going on. I have a 9700K/2080Ti at 4K and no matter what I do, I can't get the FPS over about 40. What's particularly odd, is that my FPS in the cockpit are lower but my GPU is working less hard... like 70% (CPU is like 50%). It's like there's something bottlenecking the cockpit, and it's not my computer.
August 21, 20205 yr Some sliders might not drop FPS but they might make your GPU sweat. Hmm, what do you know about that... a sim that actually USES the GPU so when you spend gobs of money on a new GPU, its actually worth it. August 21, 20205 yr Hmmm I might have to tweak this a bit. Just tested a C172 G1000 from KSEA to KPAE around 2500 feet no weather and with bone stock High + 16 aniso I avg 50fps. Making these changes I ended up just over 40. Totally usable, but I'd like to leave headroom for addons and stuff down the line. The culprit seemed to be the terrain detail slider though doing the biggest chunk. If I set to 150 I dropped only about 3-4 fps. You're not kidding, I hit 75C+ a few times on my CPU and mid-50's on my GPU all are under water. I definitely need that second rad, or I'll have to resort to running my Folding @ Home fan profile while flying. Coolant temp was easily as warm as after a few hours of running folding. With my mucking around to almost drive me to a third beer...that's what I pretty much found. The only difference (which was nothing on the ground...) was that in full Ultra, you get a little more defined edge to the clouds..but for the FPS hit..not enough for myself to even consider it. With my thread suggested settings, I see what I call, darn near, or who knows(?!?) full Ultra representation below my wings and at taxi...but no hit to my FPS. So that was the reason that I suggested my findings... and I run at 3340x1440 on a Dell U3415W wide body.🙂 Edited August 21, 20205 yr by Sesquashtoo

On my system, that is almost 27 percent FPS improvement. I can replicate that drop in FPS, anytime I merely default to Ultra.
