So Far, A Fling with MSFS? But Still, Married to P3D?

Well the point is, everyone says I’m not interested in the eye candy in MSFS, despite for years saying they prefer certain sims and add-ons like Orbx for the, you guessed it, eye candy.

Go figure.

The thing is, it's time to march on to develop BOTH in one product.  I think it is probably possible for MSFS to grow towards being a mature simulator, but not 100% sure that will happen.  But clearly in an ideal world we want it all, and it's now, thanks to ASOBO/M$, possible to actually do both and very well.

Don't forget gliding simulator. People don't care but now that CumulusX can be converted into a plug-n-play addon P3D is a superb gliding simulator rivaling condor.

Had it on my pc for a day then went back to P3Dv5 and that is were I am staying maybe try again next year not impressed with MSFS

Iam back after four days testing MSFS looks nice fun to fly VFR with the C152 and Cub really dont like the G1000 planes or A320 B748 B787 when you have PMDG FSL A3XX .

think i gone fly 90-95% in P3D then do some vfr in MSFS, hope it come some good addons probaly it needs 1 year atleast, for now its not my favorite SIM

At this point of time it is technically not possible to have PMDG or FsLabs ac in MSFS.

First the SDK needs to be more enhanced.

They are working on it to update the SDK for C++ gauge stuff... I remember all the previous versions (FS and P3D) and the hiccups it had.

I dare to say when the complex stuff is available (most bugs will then be ironed out) we will see a huge shift, so it needs time...

That's how I compare it with out of the box sims...

For the time being happy to have both sims installed one for VFR and one for IFR 🙂

Great time to be in as a flight simmer with so many choices...

Hi

thanks for your post, wall said.

I struggled today with MSFS 2020 and was more disappointed then convinced.

Yes, the scenery looks very good,  like Google Earth/Bing 3D Buildings with a good looking weather engine,

but I had so many small frustrations: with import of the 320 liveries, the bad flight dynamics and bad working

autopilot of the DA62, no helicopter etc, no cold and dark modus (or not easy to find) ....

I had the feeling that I am not free to manipulate everything like I used to in P3DV4

with the EFB, PFPX, Navigraph, GSX2, Active Sky etc...

So I am back to P3DV4 and will wait for MSFS updates and improvements,

120 euro spent on curiosity

CumulusX is a detailed thermal/ridge lift simulation for gliders that works as an addon in P3D (once you know how to convert it over to addon format) with very little performance impact. P3D is an excellent platform for gliders because it has so much scenery, so many glider types and a wealth of support apps like glider winch launching, proper glider towing and real world glider data recording and playback. It is going to take a long time until MS2020 can match that.

Hey, Thanks for the info.

Anything else?

Llike where to get, version needed, any specific quirks to be aware of?

Very good scenery (for the most part), autogen, sound, weather (except for live- and historic) and airfields.

But installation, bugs, flight models, ground handling, controllers, nav database and systems need to be fixed, 3rd party airplanes need to be plenty, at least DX12 is needed for VR for reasonable ('high') graphic settings. Helicopters and seasons are still missing, ORBX is still needed for landmarks (churches, castles, lighthouses, powerlines, masts etc) on the countryside and the areas Bing does not cover. Mesh is subpar in large parts of the earth.

MSFS will need 1 or 2 years before I will consider a switch, which will not be cheap. In the meantime, my P3D with ASCA, ORBX scenery, high-fidelity airplanes and add-ons like AH2 will be quite sufficient.

No probs it is pretty simple. There is a blog on how to do get the simulation going as a P3D addon here. There are a few little quirks but overall it is really solid. If you have any questions comment at the blog or contact me here.

Very well put. I've enjoyed playing around in MSFS over the weekend however I've come to really appreciate P3D V4.5 which runs flawlessly without any stutters and all my addons.

It will be my primary sim for a long time to come.
