Yeah, make a video.  See if you can get XPlane to duplicate this:

We are traversing different topics, not talking in circles, making videos isn't my thing, the videos people make intentionally use camera tricks and various things to hide some of the inadequacies that exist. I do have some videos, but I'm not going to post them since it will just open up another can of worms.

Thanks for admitting that XP and P3D can't replicate real life from a cockpit view in any believable way. 👍

I think what we are back to is the old:  "my sim looks better than msfs but I can't show you"  line.  fine, but I don't believe you.  I'm pretty sure you have some higher res ortho, and you might be the sort who does all the work in making as much of it color match as possible, but at the end of the day when you take all of the factors into account (objects, lighting and everything) I think you show what you have against what MSFS has, as a whole to a random set of individuals who have no vested interest, I believe you will find that the preferences are very much against you.  but, as we won't have that test, I suppose we can continue to talk past each other!

He posted a video of his that I'd be ashamed to admit I'd made on the thread I linked above.  I'd be even more ashamed to compare it to that video.

Well, now we know how good MSFS can look and how good XPlane can look by comparison.

He admitted he was just here to have fun, and by "have fun" he means "troll MSFS".  What is it that XPlane does to some people?

What's with the personal insults, grow up people. Nothing wrong with the video I posted, here is a screenshot (was removed automatically I guess)...

I think X-plane is one of those things, like Linux where it just sort of attracts the overly evangelistic fan.  My other main hobby is Music Recording, and there is a DAW(recording program) called Reaper that attracts the same sort of crowd.  it's way cheaper than the industry standard heavyweights, and it actually has an extremely competitive and complete feature set, but the downside is that it isn't really designed for humans to use.  It is highly customizable, so if you want to build your own DAW that does what you want, it can be done.  Essentially and for a long while, you literally could not discuss any other DAW in the community without a horde of Reaperites descending on you and telling you that reaper was better. at everything.  One day, as the Reaper crowd was celebrating a good, but not top three result in a "what DAW do you love" poll,  someone decided to run a "what DAW do you hate" poll.  Guess what took first place? and by an overwhelming margin.  And from that day forward, you could discuss things rationally on the music production forums again.

I really don't care either way about MSFS vs Xplane, only judging purely on the visuals and consistency I am able to achieve in each engine, don't currently have a way to edit MSFS, so when I get that ability, we shall see...

You keep trying to make it personal, but you'll find I have a thicker skin than most...

I like Linux, had three different versions at one time or another.  I also programmed for pay in Unix.  I don't think it caused any brain damage though. 🙂

Right,  Just like X-plane, not every Linux user is a Linvangelist, but I know that you know some folks who fit the description. everybody does. 😃

Sounds like you are going to the Church of MSFS (perhaps penny-coastal), oh wait I forgot, they left almost all the churches out, darn those VFR landmarks.

Is that sort of comment REALLY necessary or relevant on Avsim?

Just my poor attempt at a joke, ok edited out, but their comments were more personal...

I think this is a pretty solid analogy, actually.  I've floated around the XP.org forums the last couple of days seeing what the reaction has been, and this mentality is all over the place.  It's all just slick marketing, It's a game, it's empty eye candy, my bespoke XP setup with 47 painstakingly configured payware add-ons is better, look at this bad terrain glitch I found (clearly the "future" is here, amirite guys? lol), I played it for five minutes and uninstalled - back to X-Plane for me!, etc.  This was largely the same attitude towards Windows, and even sometimes OSX, back when I was a member of the Gentoo Linux community like 16-18 years ago.

It doesn't really bother me.  Every fandom has it's annoying diehards, and MSFS was no different in the run up to release.  I mostly just find it kinda funny, because you can kinda detect an undercurrent of desperate justification, as though people are trying to convince one another that this new competitor is no threat.  And if it must exist, we establish dominance and magnanimously award it a silver or bronze medal to show how open minded we are.

It is what it is.

IMO. The whole thread is one of the most worthless of all times. Anybody new to flight sim must think wow, is this what the hobby is all about? 😉

Edited by Adrian123

I don't think most of us see it that way, but the only people left in this thread at this point are cheerleading for MSFS (fine, but whatever). As noted, there isn't much you can currently do in MSFS yet from a customizable standpoint, and unlike others, I am not particularly enamored by the clouds that are always pixelating everywhere, but I also don't like clouds in XP, so it's almost even in that respect.

It has potential, but it has such a long ways to go and so many things that need fixing, just not seeing that it's automatically going to be "one sim to rule them all". It's always possible, but I really doubt it from what I've seen thus far.
