Where to save FS2020

Recommended Posts

How can I download and save FS2020 to – let’s say E:\FS2020.

I don’t want it on my C-drive.

The installation is really awkward in my opinion. Anyhow I was able to install the sim to my 'e' ssd. Just take your time.

ASRock Taichi Z390, 9900KF @ 5ghz, G.Skill 32 GB @ 2133, Noctua NH-U12A w/2 fans, Win10pro x64, 1080ti sc, 3 ssd, 1 hdd, Asus VG278HE, Sound Blaster Z, CH Products HOTAS, and some other stuff.

Where did you buy it from? I`m not sure about Microsoft store, but if you bought it from steam, you can install it anywhere you want. Just point it to folder when install.

I configured the install to put the files on my new SSD drive I:  and let it run while I was asleep.  I was concerned that the installation screen implied the install was going on to my C drive but in the morning everything was on I.  Perhaps it installs the download to a temp file on C and then unpacks and installs on your chosen location.  All’s well that ends well, but confusing.

When you run the installation, let it install on C Drive (default installation). It only installs some basic stuff, ca 100 MB then the installer asks where you want to install content. Now you can choose E:\MSFS or something else.

Does any know if  the initial download files can be saved in case of the need for re-installation, for example, on a new computer?  (Intend to use the STEAM app for install).

Im installing using Steam and apparently the entire game gets dumped in your C drive if you leave the path at its default. Be aware you get asked TWICE where you want to install things. Once by Steam (choose one of your Steam library locations as usual), and then you get asked again by MS (within MSFS sim after starting for first time)...this 2nd time is where youll see a default path set as being in your appdata folder on C drive...you need to change this (im assuning to any drive/folder where you really want the sim to be installed) otrherwise the entire sim seems to get dumped here (so far as its installing now I can see about 50gb dumped on my C drive, which is NOT where I want it.

Most confusing and improperly worded/guided installer process Ive seen in 35 years. On such a large install there's no excuse for this confusing wording and non-syncing with the Steam installer. Apparently the sim itself isn't the only thing that MS has released too early. They never "stupid proofed" their installer 🙄
