Any way to turn off cockpit "shake"?

Featured Replies

This is super annoying I agree. It was a problem in FSX as well. I would just do shift + 1 to open up the not virtual cockpit in FSX to get around it. No such feature here.

Like tgsweat just said, using one of the pre-configured zooms (usually one is setup for the radios, autopilot, etc.) is the closest to what you're looking for.

I found a Logitech F310 game controller for $18 at Target.com for those extra button assignments that you might not use as much. Works great. Just another option...

Beyond me why you would want to disable this - so much immersion to be had from head movement camera effects

Because in the real world, when bumping starts, your neck acts as a damper and your brain compensates a lot to get a more stable view (otherwise motion sickness would kick in real fast). In a simulation however, you don't feel anything, hense your neck doesn't compensate anything, nor does your brain which kicks in motion sickness or feeling uncomfortable a lot faster. It depends on the person off course. So the "option" to turn it off or reduce the effect is a decent question.

BTW, just try some VR (not in this sim yet) and you know what i'm talking about.

Easy solution to this problem would be to have the ability to disable this head movement when in quick view for example, I'm sure this has been done on 3rd party software for fsx and P3D ezdock and chaseplane?

lol and where is the fun in that, no wind????

Is this a serious comment?  All of the effects can be similarly simulated by moving the outside world.  Whilst the cockpit shaking about is a neat effect, the game of "chase the tiny knob with the mouse around the instrument panel, whilst simultaneously trying to look out of the window" is not fun.  Let alone for Track IR users.  It'll be a nightmare in VR.  I'd be amazed if the option to disable it is not added at some point.

Why do some people who like the feature find it necessary to waste their time and everyone else's posting their "I like it, you're so stupid, and don't appreciate the realism"  outrage here.  No one's asking to remove the feature, just for the option to do so.  'Is this what humans call "trolling"?' as Kryten might've asked.

As the OP, all I asked was "is there any way to turn it off?".  Thanks to everyone who responded constructively.

It's kind of like depth of field and motion blur,  why would I want my screen to be blurry? I turn up graphics setting to avoid that 🤣 I always turn those off. I mean, don't our eyes do this anyway?

Actually, no, because the distance to the screen is always the same. If you were to focus on something that is “far away” in the sim you would still see that which is in the foreground in definition provided it is within the foveal region of your eye. If you watch the previous oculus dev conference thing they explain how they’re trying to combat this effect in vr with electronic varifocal lenses. This allows you to naturally focus on things that are close and far away. Below is an illustration from oculus demonstrating their lcd lens array and how they change their focus to simulate that depth on their prototype headset.

That isn’t what they try to achieve with the depth of field in msfs, it’s literally a filmic effect that you only get in the showcase drone mode afaik. FPS games will often try to fake it when looking through scopes or iron sights though.

Don't know if this bothers anyone either, but the input lag into the head movement really bugs me, along with the wheel zoom scroll. Ive set the momentum to 0 and speed to 100% which helps a little, but I'd love to see a simple lag free pan

In mild turbulence one might be able to keep his fingers on a knob, so this could perhaps be implemented in the sim too. But even if not, the mouse pointer could perhaps be made to stay relative to elements in the cockpit unless the mouse was moved. So in turbulence the mouse pointer, with the mouse resting, would move around with the turbulence. Of course, I have no idea how difficult it could be to implement something like this.

I disabled the zoom on the mouse wheel to avoid the problem of zooming when you miss as dial but I can find no alternative to get the progressive zoom I wad on the mouse wheel. Assigning it  to s button does not work as it is a all or nothing switch and if the try to assign it to an axis you can not assign zoom in and zoom out to the same axis, and again it behaves like a switch 🤬. Any suggestions.

That’s because the mouse wheel isn’t an axis, it’s a mouse wheel up and mouse wheel down button that gets hit lots of times when you spin the wheel.

I have switched off camera shake and changed momentum setting in camera.cfg, yet plane still shakes - any other hints?
