Does anyone lacks ATC sounds?

Recommended Posts

I can not figure out why the ATC doesnt have any sounds

This is what I checked so far

- I have the English (US) language and speach packs installed

- I have AZURE selected on Options > Sound > Text to speech. I also tried with Windows OFFLINE, but no luck.

Thanks for any advice.

Cheers :)

Sounds for me were sketchy with Azure, but windows offline works 100%...

There is a setting in the sound menu to emulate the effect of comm transmissions getting weak when the aircraft is a significant distance from the transmitter. After installing the sim, I found that setting was “on” by default. Perhaps that might be related to the problem. Obviously you should not be getting weak ATC transmissions when sitting at the same airport where the ATC is located, but maybe there is a bug.

I have been using Window’s internal speech engine instead of Azure by choice. I actually prefer the way the voices sound compared to Azure.

Azure is the problem. Switch it to Windows voices.

Windows voices are not working either, even though I have the packages installed...

The problem is simple to correct...

Go to General options, Sound, then right at the top of the option list, put Communications Selection on the Default setting, this will ensure comms all play through your default PC sound device.

If it isn't on default device, the sounds will be playing through some other sound device option and you won't hear them.

Also of note, if you recently did a windows update it like to set your speakers to 5.1, I have only 2 and switching it back fixed me not hearing ATC or the instructors in the tutorials. I'm assuming with 5.1 selected it was trying to pump the voices to a center speaker.

This has been answered so many times.  You need to make sure you have the English (US) language pack installed on your pc and that it is top of the list of installed languages.  That will fix the problem and there was instruction to do this when installing the sim.

Where would I get that pack from? Is it a standard windows thing, or MSFS specific? I don’t recall seeing it mentioned during the installation process.

It's a Windows thing.  Go to Settings-Languages and download the English (US) pack.  If it's already installed make sure it's the top one on the list of installed languages.  It's very easy to move their location up or down.

could be also some missing files in the packages folder !

try following:

delete (your installation folder)\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore\fs-base-soundbanks - the whole  "fs-base-soundbanks" folder. press then sort by date at the top of the bar (explorer) to sort the files.

Start MSFS - and accept the update - the missing files are downloaded again and don't worry they are not too big :-) !

this also applies if you have a problem with a plane or something else - they should change the installation routine from the beginning, as an example:  the download should be first and only after that the unpacking and installation should be done, not everything in the same time, or some checking of the basic files (like X-Plane) etc. - in this case some errors could be fixed, because the SIM runs with missing files !!

It worked on the first two days after launch then nothing.

I have tried to switch between windows offline and Azure but still no ATC sounds.

Very annoying.

edit: also checked I have the windows English US language pack installed.
