Devils Tower North East Wyoming

Recommended Posts

Set up a flight from W43 Hulett to go have a look at America's 1st national monument. Using preset weather few clouds and time set to late afternoon I took off in the yellow Zlin Savage Cub. The scenery in this particular area is excellent and is worth it to just go for a sightseeing flight. However, the monument is a bit of a disappointment.  It isn't a hand crafted item, the sim does try to represent it but it's misshaped and has trees growing on top. Which is unfortunate since the rest of the area is excellent. For those unfamiliar with the monument it gained notoriety in Steven Spielberg's 1977 movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

I hope ORBX ports Frank Dainese's excellent version of it over to MSFS.

That is quite likely; if not another freeware version will probably show up soon.

Just as long as it doesn't end up looking like a pile of shaving cream... or mashed potato!😄

I'll have you know, I make great mashed potato. I'm just hoping someone doesn't do a Richard Dreyfus on Devil's Tower!

You can report it here: https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us

maybe with an real screenshot, i am sure they will clean it at one point in the future.

While we're at it, Hoover Dam and Glen Canyon Dam.  I'm sure Mt. Rushmore needs some work at well.

Yeah I checked out Devil's Tower too and was very disappointed.  I'm a bit surprised they didn't hand craft such an iconic place like that.

Can confirm, both dams need modeling. I'm a little disappointed that many things didn't get hand crafted models like we have seen in FS past. But again this scenery blows everything else out of the water, photogrammetry on or off.

Voila! ... btw, it was the OP's original post that inspired me to see what google maps had to offer.

Nice job! Really cool you took the time to take a cut at this...Thanks!

Having visited in person it's nice to see a better recreation of this fascinating place in the sim.
