Download speeds of scenery

Featured Replies

My internet is capable of 11 mb/s (not bits, but bytes). Yet, flying over the mountains in PNG looking at very drab, lowres scenery that keeps popping in, I notice that MSFS is only dipping its toes in the water when it comes to downloading stuff as I go:

Why isn't it putting the pedal to the metal and getting the job done quickly? I have set no bandwith limitation, so in theory it should download at near 100% of my bandwith and I would get much prettier scenery as I'm flying.

I had to disable the rolling cache because it kept giving me stutter episodes of 10-20 seconds from time to time which I absolutely hate.

Rolling cache is a no go for now.

What are your PC specs anyway? 81% CPU occupation is pretty high and could be the culprit rather than Internet speed: the sim does not need too much bandwidth.

I think you overestimate the data stream during regular (slow) flight. If you want to stress test, use the drone (drone speed 100%) and fly into a large city. At SFO, the sim uses up to 80Mbps (the limit of my Wifi, maybe even more) to keep up and load all of the building details. During cruise however, it look much like your graph. Maybe the Bing data in the area you flew in just isn't any better / sharper. Bottom line it's pretty amazing, the data loads so fast, I never notice any streaming lag - nothing, as if the scenery was on my HD.

2 possible causes (or both):

- Microsoft limits the bandwidth because you're not the only one who wants some data.

- Somewhere along the the road from the MS server to your PC there's a bottleneck which restricts your bandwidth.

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base & hegykc MFG Crosswind modded pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S for VR

does anyone know if the local storage works? I try to download specific scenery areas but nothing happens
