Opinions on the additional content of Premium vs Standard

I bought the premium deluxe for a few airports and a few aircraft. Its clear to me what i got with the aircraft, but the airports... was it worth it to upgrade? I don't really know what I got over the default, and I dont think there's a way to unload the upgrade version to compare (something said was quite trivial in FSX or P3D).

You could try to delete the handcrafted version in the content manager, have a look at the autogen version, and then reinstall the handcrafted version to compare.

Thanks everyone. You have convinced me to go with the Premium Deluxe version. My new computer arrived today and I'm currently installing. Can't wait to get started with it!

I went all in as well.  No regrets with the Premium.  To be honest, I've been tooling around in the Xcub.  I just love the idea I can put this little guy down on most any terrain I'm flying over.

Overall, glad I bought FS2020!

If I ever decide to purchase the new Microsoft Flight Simulator, I would choose the Standard Edition. Twice the price for a few extra default planes and airports seems a bit excessive to me.

I have learned (but not confirmed) that you can buy the Xbox Game Pass for 1 EUR and then buy the Premium Deluxe Upgrade for 84,99 Euro, which according to MS support would include the Standard Edition. So that way, you would save some money for the Premium Deluxe Edition. The software remains even if you cancel the Game Pass.

It is just not officially confirmed whether you can re-install the full software package, if you cancel the Game Pass subscription.

Chris

From what I've read, I believe if you cancel your Game Pass subscription, you have the option to buy out the full (standard) version of the game and, if you don't, then you can't use it at all any more, so the Premium Deluxe upgrade would be worthless,

Let us know if you're pleased with your decision! I looked at the price, looked at how much I've spent on FS add-ons over the years, and decided I'd take the gamble. As I say, I'm pleased I did, but the reasons others have given for going for the standard or the game pass edition are also valid.

The question is to know whether you are interested by the specific airports or aircraft which come with the premium packages.

I rarely fly these large airports in P3D and I find the choice of default aircraft enough to wait the real things, aircraft from third party developers.  So the choice is clear for me.

I will do. It will probably be a little while as work is eating into my flight sim time but no complaining from me, others have it so much worse than me during this pandemic.

My reasoning for the purchase was similar to yours. I've pretty much now got my flight controllers configured but the strangest part was the sim telling me I shouldn't be assigning brake axis to the CH pro pedals - bizarre, as without that I didn't have progressive toe breaking... I am a VR guy primarily now, so I also had to find my stashed away TrackIR and install that.

So flying time in the sim has been limited so far, but I did do one quick circuit from my home airport over the city during dusk in the Cessna 152 and wow it was visually stunning. The pinkish-orange hues on the undersides of the scattered clouds was matching what I was seeing IRL outside my house window. It even appeared that the leaves on the trees in the sim were rustling? I've never seen my hometown represented that closely in a sim before and I've done the ortho thing in X-plane with overlays etc... So very good first impressions. Now I've just got to replace the airport terminal using the SDK.

One last thing. I'm having some weird inconsistent problems with launching MSFS. I bought the Steam version so maybe that was my mistake but sometimes it just stalls at the blank screen before the Asobo logo appears and gets no further. I also had one instance of the blue progress bar getting to the end while loading a configured flight within the sim and it just sat there for ~7 mins and seemed to be unable to progress  further. I forced quit. Anyone else seeing such behavior?

Yes, that was why I was hesitating with the decision as well. I will say though that the planes are just visually beautiful and it's hard to imagine how TPDs will make significant improvements in the looks department. So if the flight models don't get tweaked by Asobo towards closer realism, I'm hopeful that the experts in the community will do it themselves, and that seems to be already occurring. It would really be a shame though if Asobo doesn't do it, given how much time they have already invested in the appearance and sounds of these default planes.

In terms of the additional airports, it was really KSFO and O'Hare that were appealing for me. California is just so geographically interesting to fly around and more total photogrammetry than anywhere else in the world right now I think? O'Hare's central location seems pretty useful as a hub for airliner flying down the road.

I do not believe that is true.  If you look in The storefront the wording for each of the upgrades actually says that the upgrade INCLUDES all the standard content Plus the following.......

If the upgrade only provided additional content, then they would not state that the upgrade INCLUDES base content.

Also, individuals who called into support was told by Microsoft employees, that upgrade purchases made within the marketplace don't "expire" once GamePass subscription ends.

Microsoft often gives Game Pass subscribers discounts on purchasing software.  Especially the "premium" editions of their titles.  So the fact that the premium deluxe upgraded package is discounted for Game Pass subscribers doesn't surprise me one bit.

Bought it for the CJ4 and Cirrus. But it crashes so often and the CH issues haven't been able to use much! 🙂

MSFT does give discounts via Game Pass, but not until the game has been out 30 days or more as I understand it. And in their official forums this question was asked on day one and we were informed that it was an upgrade to your Game Pass version, and thus would only work with a Game Pass subscription. In other words, no you could not save a bundle by getting a $1 Game Pass subscription and then buying Premium Deluxe.

Would love to see a truly official response to this question once and for all. I have a purchase decision to make soon.

And at first I was sure I'd buy the Premium Deluxe version. Given what aircraft and airports cost, and how much I wanted a 747, the analog Cessna, O'Hare and SFO, I thought it was good value. But seeing how good FlightBeam's KDEN is plus the fact that apparently you cannot make mods to the Premium Deluxe aircraft the way that group is fixing the Neo makes me wonder how much value I'd ultimately get out of it if I end up with third-party aircraft from PMDG and airports from Orbx and others.

I too went for the Premium Deluxe edition.
