Mesh and water fixes available here

Recommended Posts

One thing I like so far is how similar it is to X-Plane for add-on installation and removal just place it into a folder.  means uninstalling is as simple as deleting things if they should get fixed in the future.  In the meantime I applaud the effort they are doing fixing these things.  Reminds me of the Unofficial Patches for Bethesda games.

Got a little plugin there called VFRmap that follows the flight on google maps in a browser.

That’s ironic isn’t it considering they’re using bing maps in MSFS haha 🙂

i allready installed the fixes, but wondering if we see official fixes on the next update (27.8) we maybe need to uninstall the mods again to avoid scenery probs.

It’s exactly why we need a scenery gateway system like xplane. Community generated scenery fixes like these should be quality checked and should be pushed out to everyone to benefit from in the next official build  update. There can be thousands of small fixes like these which can be made, way more than Asobo can handle in their World 2.0 updates.

I made the Anchorage area fix that's posted on the msfsaddons website. Heres an updated version that includes 4 National Parks!  There are pictures in the folder that show the fixed areas.

Thank you!

That’s great; I read somewhere that MSFS’s mesh format made it difficult to import or modify meshes. Seems the clever clogses of the internet worked out how. Very impressed how quickly people are moving.

There are a variety of BGL files that were created in FSX with the SDK utility Resample (land class, elevation mesh, masks, etc.). Asobo slightly modified the FSX BGL format but the person over at FSDeveloper who created BGL Decompressor figured out most of the modifications. The toughest one was the digital elevation data (the CGL files) because they are compressed, hence CGL instead of BGL. But he solved it. I didn't look carefully at these user-modified waterbody files for Alaska, etc., but they appear to just have the correct elevations for each waterbody. They are not elevation files, which are normally referred to as mesh. Those files in FSX were named as DEM BGLs.

Yeah these edits aren't mesh files. More so just individual changes to each of the lakes/rivers that have issues.

Thanks a lot for your work.

May I point you to the the small water bodies along the Seward highway just west of Girdwood (AQY) which could also need a fix.

Would be great if you could fix them as well.

I am working on adding the area from Anchorage up to and including Wrangell-St. Elias National Park so that should cover the area you're asking about. Should have it done by the end of the week at the latest.

Baddweapon, could you link me to any tutorials/videos/etc. on this process?  I've got some water areas near my home airport (KBOI, Boise, ID), namely the New York canal that sort of surrounds the airport is pretty dorked up (as can be seen below), and rather than asking someone else to "fix it", I thought I'd try and see if I could fix it on my own...any suggestions?

This should be a decent enough guide to get started, Just need to download the SDK form within the game. You can do this by enabling developer mode in the options menu, clicking help on the new toolbar up top, and clicking SDK Installer. If you have any specific questions along the way lemme know!
