Just Fired up P3dV5 for the first time since installing MSFS

And it was fabulous! I will not be getting rid of P3dv5 any time soon. As I am a tubeliner guy, nothing beats P3dv5 as of now (my opinion of course). It was even better than I remembered with my short flight in the PMDG 737.

I had the opposite experience. P3D felt stale and stoic.

The Airbus will keep me coming back, but only for a while. Despite it's teething problems, MSFS is the sim of the future and it shows.

MSFS might be the sim of the future if they can manage all performance issues ...

And adding complex 3rd party airliners will tax the sim even more. At this moment we can see what is possible when flying slower GA aircraft ; all jetliners with glass cockpits show smooth gauges inside the cockpits but stutters in the outside view.

And that MSFS seems to use max 4 cores will not help much either.

I'm getting much smoother performance in MSFS than in P3D (and obviously the visuals are at least a generation ahead). Sure, there are still evident performance issues, but there's literally never been a time when there weren't performance issues in P3D (or FSX, for that matter).

And to be clear: the "performance issues" I'm still seeing in MSFS now are mostly that I can't get above 30 fps in airliner cockpits. You may recall that there's something of a cottage industry here at Avsim convinced that 30 fps is all you ever need...because it was often all you were ever going to get in the legacy sims.

I upgraded to I7-10700 (from 7700) and I am enjoying my P3D v5 like never before (60FPS in the FSLabs A320!). 

Everytime I see the scenery of MSFS I start thinking about buying it. Everytime I see the FMC and systems of the default MSFS planes I tell myself: "I am not missing anything right now".

Like PilotPete99 said, nothing beats P3D (and I am sure XPlane 11, but I don't have it) when flying IFR and airliners.

It doesn't have to be either or. I enjoy VFR with GA aircraft in MSFS and IFR with QW 757 etc between major airports in P3D.  Maybe one day MSFS will have it all, but right now I've the best of both.

Have all the initial issues been sorted out? I  tried it after the first update and performance was very good with my i7 2600K.

I definitely agree that GA flying is very cool in MSFS, but I tend to get bored fairly quickly with simulated GA flying. I also wish they stayed with legacy FSX keyboard commands (I know several of them are but not all). I’m sure in due time MSFS will be awesome but for now P3dv5 will remain my main sim.

I currently have no interest in MSFS. Im not going to ride the new flightsim syndrome in beta  again! I am looking forward to the TFDI MD11, the Flysimware FMC for LJ35, the Flysimware 414,the A2A Aerostar.

I'm a tubeliner guy - FSLabs, PMDG, the amazing Maddog, I love 'em all.  After a wekk of MSFS went back to P3DV5 yesterday to reconnect.  I couldn't.

The weather was flat and boring, even with  Active Sky and Cloud Art, the payware airports in some cases inferior to MSFS's defaults (gotta love those undulating runways), the aircraft interiors pale and rough compared to MSFS.  And, oh yes, those microstutters which I had kind of forgotten 😞 

In spite of the obvious bugs, oversights and incomplete implementation I'm going back to the future guys. P3D is history.  I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship 🙂

But VFR definitely MSFS, the detail and the weather is outstanding. My parents in law have a house in Southern France and when I flew over, the detail was out of this world!

After a week of MSFS 2020 (mostly playing with settings but I’ve settled down now) I too tried P3Dv4 today at an identical airport, location, weather setting to a flight I’d just finished in MSFS.

Oh dear... it looked terrible in comparison and that was with ORBX scenery and A2A 182!  Flat colours and textures, boxy buildings, poor reflection and lighting.  Fired up MSFS again at same location and was honestly blown away at the immersion this sim provides. No, systems aren’t good and it’s hard on the PC hardware but my god it looks good and gives me the impression I’m up there which is the whole point of the escapism flight sims provide.

Can’t see me going back and that’s something considering the investment I’ve made in addons.

I'm glad some of You are immensely enjoying the MSFS2020 Scenery Simulator.
But I prefer a Flight Simulator like P3D v5, even with those "humongous, horrible and terrible" shortcomings some of You describe. Perhaps in the future MSFS will become a full Simulator.

I have flown for years locked at 30 usually.  The ONLY time I wish could run at 60 is for things like panning.  That's really it for me.  The performance advantage by locking at 30 has always outweighed the loss.  To each his own.  Would I love to get 60FPS at 4k.  Of course I would.  But I value smoothness over FPS.  Always have, and always will.
