Just Fired up P3dV5 for the first time since installing MSFS

I haven't heard or read anything from PMDG since their comments prior to release.  I'm very curious to hear some comments post-release.

One guy on the PMDG forum recently was claiming that FSL and PMDG had been revising their timeline further into the future, based on an interview he had seen. But I googled it just before, and can't find any relevant interviews to prove that they've actually said this.

MSFS has been downloaded million times, so there's definitely a market there if developers get this right. It's not surprising that PMDG have shown interest, however we also know that 1. PMDG are masters of marketing speak and raising expectations 2. PMDG are very slow.

I bought the NGXu on release largely so I could get the discount on the MSFS 737. But I'm not gonna stop flying my PMDG planes for 6 months, a year, two years, just because there may or may not be something better on the horizon.

That looks beautiful and very realistic ..

Well done

I've never flown into YPKU before last night. With large-scale photoscenery, one of the joys - as you would know - is discovering something you haven't seen before. Much of the Australian outback is flat, but this region has some nice terrain around the airport. Flew in from Orbx YBRM, there's a lot of land up that that way that has probably never been stood on by a human foot.If you're ever tempted to make some ortho of that part of the world, I can highly recommend ARC.

I've been VR-ing rather than using a cockpit lately, but they're both great ways to increase immersion. An even though P3D v5 loses out to MSFS on some aspects of eye candy, for me it's still P3D that delivers the best feeling of "being there".

Regarding MSFS and PMDG :

1 There is no enhanced SDK to connect the PMDG/FsLabs/AS complex airliners too. That will take at least 4 months (according to AS as they are helping Asobo on that )

2 After those at least 4 months connecting and testing will begin,

3 Those addon airline developers also see that the default GC jets show stutters in the outside views

So we will just have to wait and see what will come out.

But to get back to P3D. I still a bright future for this sim.

This was my sentiment after my first 6 or 7 sessions in MSFS.  I found myself back in P3D going thru my typical morning routine as I get up very early and enjoy strong coffee and setting up the next flight adventure, using FSCaptain to help stay focused on pilot performance.

Then, something unexpectedly struck:  I completed a flight from KTVL to KSBA in the TBM930 doing an ILS approach and started to really enjoy flying thru photoreal, at least far closer to photoreal, versus the arguably pleasant looking but far from photo-accurate scenery we have in P3D.  This got me back into MSFS ever since, which has only been 4 or 5 days or so.  I'm stoked to learn the dev(s) at FSCaptain are working to get their program up and running in MSFS.   I will still be using P3D for sure but there is far more in what is being called 'eye candy', when that candy is in fact far more real than the alternatives, which I didn't really expect.  Most of my flight time is all about doing well in FSCaptain, using the lovely Majestic Q400 and the PMDG NGUx and 777, so I can see using both sims.   I believe MSFS has a very bright future--the scenery engine for a first release is nothing short of revolutionary, and that it sans DX12.   Looking forward to a GPU upgrade to make both sims shine.

I attempted my first flight in P3Dv5 since the release of MSFS as I wanted to fly the FSL A321.  Had a lot of fun setting up the flight, take-off, climb was great, just like revisiting an old friend....I haven’t done an airliner flight in 2 months.

The flight continued until pausing at TOD.  When I went to resume my flight I had the dreaded loading icon in place of my mouse cursor, and it crashed.  I have yet to have a single CTD with MSFS.

Now I’m not saying I’ll never go back to P3D again...perhaps this was just unlucky, or that I’ll never have a CTD in MSFS in the future, but I was reminded how many CTD’s I’ve had with P3D over the years (lots) vs how many I’ve had with everything else I play (almost none).

Never had a CTD with any version of P3D on my 2 pc’s. One 1x 4K , the other 2x 4K...

"okay". 😂

Apparantly you used the 7940X back then.

FYI, it's ok to admit P3D is shaky at times.

2x speed in heavy scenery + Prosim has never been a good idea 🧐

SLI also was not a good idea. I should have known better 🤓

At normal speed it all works good 🤠
