Loading up time

Recommended Posts

I run the sim on an Nvme SSD and 32GB DDR4 RAM and still takes 2/3 minutes to load

Hey can you guys post how you purchased the game (Steam, MS store, DVD)?

It seems like I'm having way longer load times than others with similar hardware specs and I'm trying to figure out why.

There's a part of me that wants to just keep the program running all the time

For now, suppress that part of you. I did that and found that the weather reverts back to essentially nothing on all subsequent flights until I quit and reload. Doh! (bought direct from the MS Store on opening day)

Strange, I've heard lots of people complain about the load time. But mine seems to load in about 1 minute, I'll time it next the next time i boot it up.

Edit... 1minute 52 from the when the Xbox screen first comes on to the menu.

I've got a Ryzen 7 2700, 32 gigs of RAM, and one NVMe drive and it takes almost 10 minutes from clicking the icon to being ready to fly.

Hmm... not sure why I can't edit my old post but need to make a correction:

Apparently my mind is playing tricks on me!  I just timed it using the stopwatch in Windows and got the following (times from clicking the program icon):

0:36 Program window first appears

1:33 "Press any key" prompt

3:25 Main menu appears (I then paused the stopwatch while I made my selections, then resumed it)

4:58 Ready to fly

So not as bad as I thought!

00:00 Program window first appears

1:30 "Press any key" prompt

4:30 Main menu appears

Load a flight, taking 5 minutes to Ready to fly

Maybe it seems longer when your sat waiting, but also i wonder if its anything to do with the number of people logging onto the servers at a given time

For me it's like this (with the -fastlaunch parameter used):

0:44 "Press any key" prompt

2:29 Main menu appears (I paused the stopwatch while I set up a flight)

4:35 Ready to fly

Still much longer than P3D

To compare loading times one should add location and graphics settings.

(I just now switch my installation to my faster nvme drive to test if this has any impact.)

It loads longer than P3D and it looks longer 😉

Improved times

1.) -fastlaunch non-steam solution without intros

2.) moved installation to my faster nvme drive

3600x, 2x NVME drive, 1080ti, Nanwalek Airport, Ultra settings, 4k

2:21 (2:48) main menu

3:01 (3:20) cockpit

total loading time 3:01

(times in bracket with normal start without -fastlaunch)

The faster NVMe port (Gen3 x4 32GB/s versus Gen3 x2 16GB/s) makes a difference. Good that I moved my installation.

This had me curious to what my start times were so here we go. From application icon click to the main menu was 2:33. From the main menu to in the cockpit was 1:13.

3:46 total time from icon click to in the cockpit.

Specs are a Corsair MP600 Gen4 NVME SSD

Ryzen 9 3900X

I think we can all agree that yes the load times seem slow but from my experience I can still get to the cockpit faster than I would get to the menu in P3D. Granted that had a lot of addons but still..

Is it done yet? When will it be released? Will it be freeware or payware? How much will it cost? Any updates on the progress? Will it work for Xbox? Can I be a beta tester? How's the performance in VR?

Non Steam Users. The following should, load the sim, skipping over the logos.

1. Right click and create a shortcut on the desktop.

2. When prompted, just pick any file to reference, even a photo will do.

3. Click Next, then give it a name. Then close the shortcut window.

4. Right click the shortcut and select "properties"

5. Place the following text in the "Target Field"

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start shell:AppsFolder\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App "-FastLaunch"

6. Close the shortcut and double click it

This should open the sim without playing the logos.

Side note but don't forget if you're running the Steam version you can save a few seconds by adding this line to the launch options: -FastLaunch

This will skip the intro videos. It's something, at least.

Yep same with ms store version
