Taxiway signs are really small. Is there a fix for it?

Featured Replies

Hi. I am running the sim in 1920 x 1080 resolution.  The taxiway signs are really small in MSFS.  In FSX, they are nice a big and very legible.  In MSFS, I can barely make out the letters and in various instances, the plane is only 20 feet to 30 feet away from the taxiway sign.  Without using an airport chart with the taxiway signs, it's virtually impossible for me to taxi around an airport by using the taxiway signs because they are too small.

As a passenger, I remember the taxiway signs can be easily read from 20 feet to 30 feet away.  Does Asobo need to fix the taxiway signs and make them bigger and more legible?

I’ve been complaining about this nonstop since I saw videos of the preview build. They’re about half the height they need to be at international airports.

And see the post on the bottom of this thread. Someone does a nice size comparison using the scenery editor and shows how tall they should be.

The font is also off from the norm, which makes it harder.

Asobo, please fix this! This is important!

For those wondering about the post I referred to, this is it. Copied their post from the forum. Sorry for the grey letters - couldn’t fix on mobile. See the attached image.

“I think the taxiway signs need to be a fair bit larger.

  1. I think they are larger IRL. (perhaps not at general aviation airports?)
  2. your screen resolution makes them less readable from a distance, so they should probably be even slightly larger than IRL. + I always hated how I had to zoom in on taxi signs to read them.

edit: I’ve done some research on taxisigns and the ingame taxisigns.

The leftmost sign is the ingame sign. (unfortunately it’s the back of the sign. The scenery editor didn’t cooperate so I had to improvise)

I think it compares to either size 1 or 2 (right most signs).
In my research I found these sizes are meant for general aviation airports, while 3 and 4 are for international airports.

A table for the sizes:

Size | support height | billboard height (on top of support/measured without support) | text size | max runway length of airport

Size 1 | 18cm / 7inch | 50cm / 20inch | 25cm / 10inch | 800m / 2600ft

Size 2 | 18cm / 7inch | 66cm / 26inch | 33cm / 13inch | 1200m / 3900ft

Size 3 | 18cm / 7inch | 81cm / 32inch | 40.5cm / 16inch | 1800m / 5900ft

Size 4 | 18cm / 7inch | 127cm / 50inch | 63.5cm / 25inch | 1800m+ / 5900ft+

Size 4 is a bit smaller for european airports I think. (107cm)
But yeah, the signs should be larger for the big airports.”

Yeah, I am taxing from Seattle Tacoma International. And the signs are freaking small!  They are just unreadable.  Maybe Asobo should adjust the taxiway signs for international airports at least.  In theory, I shouldn't need an airport chart to figure out the taxiways if the taxiway signs are legible (although in real life, of course you use an airport chart).

With the taxiways named incorrectly, the size of the signs is pretty much irrelevant. They won't match your real-world maps anyway so they would just confuse you.

This is a new year (2021) and still the taxiway signs are unreadable. I so desperately want to turn off those big blue arrows and taxi realistically.

it is possible with airportdiagrams on a mobile app..i guess this will take a long wait to fix.

they fixed the size issue quite a while back -- at least at every airport Ive been to.

what airport has tiny signs?
