How to get FPS locked at 30 with 60 hz Monitor?

Recommended Posts

So what do I have to do to get this to work? In game settings are a mess. I dont have tuner or anything like that just the Nvidia CP. Doing a global setting of v sync adaptive half refresh doesnt work. The game still runs at a high FPS based on FRAPS. How does this work??

hmm so setting the NVCP to 30 hz and then 60 hz in game matches it down to 30? I am going to give that a try!

Tried NVCP, can't get it to work. If someone knows how to get it to work, please post.

Half refresh rate is not working indeed, to put the sim at 30 FPS's you only have 2 valid options, first your monitor or TV supports natively 30hz or second you lock the frames in nvidia inspector or using any other external tool, the internal FPS lock is a mess.

You have to start from your own monitors refresh rate. If that is 60Hz you can go with the values in the sim (60,30,20).

If you have a monitor with 120Hz refresh rate, the values in the sim go up by 2. If you select 60FPS, you'll get in fact 120, if you select 30FPS, you get 60, if you select 20, you get 40 in reality.

If you have a 144Hz monitor, the ingame values of 60,30 and 20 give you 144, 72 and 36 respectively.

Download a copy of RTSS (freeware) and set  Scanline sync to x/2, and the value to non-zero (I use -10) for the FlightSimulator.exe profile.

You can also enable the on screen FPS counter.

Gonna quote myself: The above works nice with the 452.06 nVidia driver (MSFS optimised). However, that driver introduces a little stutter when scrolling on some webpages with Firefox (and some other browsers, but does not with the latest Edge). Once of this websites that has the scrolling stutter in Firefox is this one, AVSIM forums. First thought it was related to the FF 80.0 update installed +/- on the same moment as the 452.06 driver but when using other browsers i noticed the same. I also noticed very small stutter in DCS which i could not remove. Rolled back to the previous driver (451,85 ) and the stutters in Firefox are gone and DCS is smooth again. But the drawback is more stutters in MSFS and impossible to maintain 30 FPS if VSync is turned on the game. When selecting 60FPS, it goes up to 70+ (which seems correct, i can't reach my native refresh of 120), if i select 30 FPS it should give max 60 (at a refresh of 120) but it goes down to a fixed 25 and if i select 20FPS in game it goes to 15 fix in game. Really weird.

With RTSS it worked nice with the 452.06 driver to (120 refresh with scanline x/2 resulted in 60FPS in game, with X/2 -1 i went to 30 as it should. But with 451,85 things are all over the place and MSFS does not respond well to the RTSS values.

More testing tomorrow, need some shut-eye first...

If you have an Nvidia card just go to the 3D settings page and click the programs (I think, not the main that applies globally) tab and pull up flight simulator from the app drop down. You can lock the FPS in there and it will only apply to msfs. I just did this myself and locked it at 40 to keep heat down until I can expand my cooling loop with a 2nd radiator. Guess I didn’t build  it good enough to handle cpu and gpu both getting hammered lol. Coolant was getting pretty warm.

Really?  Does it just stop limiting it? Or something else.  I never actually tried it until today

No, after a reboot it can be not working, maybe driver depended, it's a hit an miss with 451.85 driver. For MSFS at least. With the optimized MSFS 452.06 it works better but the whole VSync/ FPS settings within MSFS acts a bit weird.

i set 60HZ for TV and  in MSFS 60FPS limit  - then in NCP i set FPS to 30

Works without VSYNC in MSFS

btw - using HDMI  - might be otherwise with Displayport

Btw - remember to change your HDMI old cables if you are going from 1080P to 4K because old HDMI (1.4) does not support 4K/60HZ but only 30HZ
