August 31, 20205 yr The FIGAS Islander parts warehouse required a re-stock so time to deliver some on a non stop flight from EGVN to EGYP. About 15 hours or so flight time to the Falklands. An RAF Voyager IRL recently did a non-stop flight rather than landing at Ascension Island so I thought I'd have a go with what I have. FSX NOTAM - the flight did actually take about 15 hours so the sim was reasonably accurate FWIW, even with a freeware jet. Taking off from Brize at zero dark thirty! Climbing out. One can see the Milky Way.. just Over the Canaries - Mount Teide poking above the clouds. Tenerife Sud airport Sunrise over the Atlantic. Proper daylight and there's Fogo Island (Cape Verde) below. After the long uneventful flight we're descending towards East Falkland, in a thunderstorm.. We will be heading for an ILS approach to RWY28 at RAF Mount Pleasant. Pleasant? I hope so! The purple dot on the display is Stanley airport, Mount Pleasant is at the end of the magenta line. Breaking out from under the clag. Visibility is good thankfully. Believe it or not, I'm hand flying her.. I welcomed the practice, not sure about you guys LOL! (FSX NOTAM The wide swath of white around the runway is the winter texture... FS2020 this is not ) Touchdown. Here we are! "Right, Hoskins, most definitely get a brew on!!" September 1, 20205 yr Author Well, I don't think FIGAS would charter a massive three-holer when they would just ask the RAF to get the parts over to them in addition to the fact that the MD-11 would have to stop over at Ascension I had to indulge in some "air-to-air refuelling" for the Voyager, which "for now" I fully accept happened due to my fuel burn. I cannot recall if I used full fuel tanks or not-quite-full as per the fuel planner. In any event I suspect that having to save the flight and undertake it over several sittings (real life meant that I couldn't just leave the sim running..)had an impact: Invariably when I reloaded the flight the engines had to throttle up because the wind and its direction had changed. I say "for now". If someone else cares to repeat a Brize to Mount Pleasant, EDIT non-stop, in the MRTT then I'd be interested in the results, thanks. September 1, 20205 yr Like Ed said, what happened to your loyalty to MD-11 Freighter...🙂...Gear-door issues fixed...? Oh well...a change is good sometimes...I'd not seen that RAF A330 MRTT in a long while...liked the "supply-flight" excuse.... (anyway, thanks for the post and the nice pictures)...!!
