RTX 3080, will 10gb be enough?

VRAM is very important, but keep in mind that also the cpu needs to be up to do its task. The system is as good as its weakest part...

 

With P3Dv5 my server has 2x 4K in NVSurround with a 2080 Ti.

Settings : 
Textures 1024

AG range medium / Trees Very Dense /  Buildings Dense

LOD range High ( with pr scenery and the EnvShade haze no visual difference with Ultra )

Clouds Shadows quality Low | Range High

PSXT + RT with AIG 

 

My VRAM never exeeds 7.4 Gb or 60% GPU

Overclockers UK are listing the 3090 AIB GPU`s from £1499 up depending on the card Gigabyte Aorus Extreme £1,589,99. 

I don`t think they ship till after the 24th.

It's interesting how some of these cards come with a 3yr warranty then I see the zotec (and possibly others) have a 5yr warranty. I didn't go thru each one. thanks for sharing

Not gamers generally, as over 65% of them (if Steam is to be believed) still use 1920x1080. Less than 3% in the latest Steam Hardware survey use 4k. I think that NVIDIA is pitching the 3080 at the upper end of their main user base rather than the small, niche areas where 4k is more prevalent.

I would almost guarantee he is talking about 4k.  I use a 43" at 4k.  Since it's right in front of my face I find 1440p to be sub optimal.

Certainly at that screen size. I couldn't fit a 40"+ monitor/TV into my workspace so 4k would be an overkill, not to mention an unnecessary resource drain, for me.

Not really. It'll be a very sweet spot for a lot of gamers. Maybe not for some simmers but for most people the 3080 or even the 3070 will do a fantastic job even for simming. For those who want more there's always the 3090 and I wouldn't be surprised if they release a 3080 super or something in the middle sometime next year which would add maybe another 10% on top of the 3080.

Heck...I'm just gonna hold out for the 4000 series where they'll introduce cards that you just plug desktop sticks of ram in them to make your own vram capacity. (up to 1tb of course). 🤣

Been on a Titan Maxwell 12gb for 3 years that has served me very well (and for $400 off Craig's list...almost classified as a steal), but just deciding what 3080 flavor I'm going to upgrade to. (Unless the 4000 series has already been announced....I don't keep up with it really....more a simmer than a hardware guy).

I believe the 3080 will have a option for 20Gb later on this year. There are too many that want to play  MSFS 2020 in 4K.

Until the bench testing is out you cannot assume anything, some think the GPU is the magic bullet for MSFS 4K with fantastic frame rates, when for all we know the difference between the 3080 and 3090 may be less than you think.

Seriously, just when you thought that 4K would do it for a long time to come, now you see 8K etc. being hyped. If you ask me, the law of diminishing marginal returns starts to kick beyond 4K.

Same. Not interested in 8k. The 4K I have now is perfect. Heck my tv is still brought to me at 1080i. Some channels 720p. But the vram on the 3090 I want. I still do a lot of flying in P3d and will be able to up a few important settings.

But that's the only easily accessible data with a massive player base. Do you know of a better data source? What data are you using to come to the conclusion that 4k is the norm? Apart from registering the resolution of your desktop, how else does Steam determine the resolution?

I dont think anyone mentioned the rumored 3070 ti with 16gb memory?  Would this choice, if it occurs still be better than a 2080ti coming from a 1080ti, i would think? Yet should still be alot cheaper than the 3090?
