Alabeo M20R with GTN 750 - approach mode at ILS turns off.

Recommended Posts

Hey, guys,

I'm new in this forum 🙂

I have a problem with the autopilot of my Alabeo M20R when the GTN 750 is integrated. At ILS final approach, the approach mode turns off automatically and I can not activate it anymore when the plane has to sink (but does not :D). Anybody knows a solution for that?

By the way, I didn't try it yet without the GTN 750.

Not sure what your approach checklist is... but the well established sequence is:

1. Activate the Approach in the GTN , with the GTN in GPS mode, and NAV / ALT modes on the autopilot

2. Dial in the ILS frequency on the NAV1 radio

3. Set the heading bug to the runway heading

4. After turning to final, select HDG mode on the autopilot, and select VLOC mode on the GTN

5. Check that the glideslope indicator is alive and above the airplane

6. Select APR mode on the autopilot

Hey, Bert,

Thanks for the answer. Yes, I follow a similar procedure like you recommended me but it doesn't work. I also tried your way but the plane can not hold the glideslope. I overfly the airport. I also tried it in other airports.

But it's funny that the default versions of the planes (without GTN) I tried it did work (Alabeo M20R and A2A Cherokee 180). But with the GTN 750 it doesn't work 😞

Are you sure that the GTN is in VLOC mode?

Do you see the glideslope indicator?

I do have some M20 fixes, but I do not believe ILS landings would be affected..

Yes, I do 😄

But I think that I found the option "Activate Approach" in the GTN you recommended me. I'm trying it right now. 😄

The GTN is more complex than I expected 😮

The thing is... when in VLOC mode, the GTN is not driving the autopilot.

It is being driven by the NAV1 radio when in APR mode.

So, once you are on final, with the GTN in VLOC mode, and the ILS frequency

dialed into the NAV1 radio, the autopilot takes its guidance from the NAV1 and HSI needles.

Not entirely clear what would prevent this from working, in your case..

Post a screenshot of the panel when on final, before and after glideslope capture!

Hmm okay, I think I know the problem. I tried it with the A2A C172 now and when I am taking the vectors to final with GPS mode, I can switch to NAV mode with the approach selection and the plane descends. But without GPS first, it is impossible ...

But thanks for your aid :)
