September 3, 20205 yr A note about graphics resolution on MSFS: I use the 1920x1080 resolution sim in a 4K monitor. Unlike Xplane11, the resolution of the cockpit graphics is much worse; especially the display of the G1000 is graphically not very resolute and the pixels are very visible. Is there any way to improve the G1000’s graphics display at 1920x1080 resolution on a 4K screen like XP11? Regards Stefano

September 3, 20205 yr Try this: Before starting MSFS, go into Nvidia Control Panel (I assume you're using Nvidia) and click on "Change Resolution" under Display in the left column. Under "2 - Change the resolution" in the main window, choose 1920 x 1080 in the resolution selection list. Apply and exit. This will change your Windows desktop to 2K; but it also allows your monitor/television to upscale the image to 4K (which usually provides much better results than having Windows do it). Open MSFS, make sure 1920 x 1080 is the selected resolution with a 100 render scale and see if that's any clearer. Increasing render scale may eliminate some aliasing; but it will definitely cost performance. (Remember to return your resolution to 4K when not using MSFS) Hope this helps. Why is this method upscaling anything to 4K? Just because its a 4K monitor/tv its still 1920x1080 pixel? It looks horrible on my 4k TV wirh 1920x1080. Scaling to 150 in MSFS is quite okay but still not instruments as the OP also has experienced Michael Moe Edited September 3, 20205 yr by Michael Moe Michael Moe

I guess I don't understand the question. 1 hour ago, Michael Moe said: Just because its a 4K monitor/tv its still 1920x1080 pixel? Yes. 1 hour ago, Michael Moe said: It looks horrible on my 4k TV wirh 1920x1080. Really? What brand of TV? On my Samsung 40" 4K, doing it this way looks better (especially the cockpit displays) than running MSFS at 1920 x 1080 on a native 4K desktop. I'll be curious to know other people's experience. 1 hour ago, Michael Moe said: Scaling to 150 in MSFS is quite okay but still not instruments as the OP also has experienced But the OP wanted better definition of the instruments in the cockpit. Besides, scaling to 150 is making the graphics card render at an equivalent of 2880 x 1620. I'm sure it does look better in many cases, but it also costs a lot of performance.

Thank you ... it's a sort of work around solution but it works! Stefano
September 4, 20205 yr A real Garmin G1000 used 15" monitor with a resolution of 1024x768 if a remember. If the sim do more, it's too much 😉 i9-10850k - Asus Tuf Z490+ - 32 Go DDR4 - RTX 3070 8Go MSI Trio X

Regards Stefano I agree with what @MadDog said, but another option is to choose a higher resolution for your desktop and the sim, then use the render scale slider to go below 100 to regain some performance. For example, I was testing between running at 1440p at a 120/130 render scale and 4k at 70/80 render scale. I ended up happer with 4k at a 70 scale than 1440p, and my card can handle that. My primary concern was the same as yours - reading the instruments. See what happens when you try to run 4K, but at render resolution 50 for starters. 5800X3D | Radeon RX 6900XT

This was actually my starting point when I started trying out different combinations and it does improve the visuals as well as the readability of cockpit displays (and it's more convenient). Unfortunately, I experienced about a 15-20% loss in framerate when using 4K at render 50 as opposed to 2K at render 100. Theoretically, they should provide the same performance; but at least on my system, that does not appear to be the case. 25 minutes ago, cwburnett said: I ended up happer with 4k at a 70 scale than 1440p, and my card can handle that. I agree that you've found a "sweet spot" using 4K at render 70... it's definitely the best compromise between visuals and performance that I've found. I really, really want to use this config myself... but I'm afraid my poor little 1070 is just not quite up to the task (I try to maintain at least 30 fps in all situations). Need to convince my wife that a GTX3080 results in marital bliss....
