September 4, 20205 yr Home made Hawker Hurricane MkII (1940) Cockpit. IL2: Cliffs of Dover Made with a hand saw, B&Q plastic pipe. Deodorant bottle (for the H-Lever) some B&Q drawer handles and a rudimentery 3D printer (for the bezels and fuel switch). The switches are genuine parts as is the Fuel Selector Switch. I crafted the Gunsight myself as a real one was over £3k, Also a shoutout to Leo Bodnar for the 0836X and BBI32 which connected it all together switch wise. Pololu allowed the gauges to move - so cheers for that.
September 5, 20205 yr Outstanding, sir! You most definitely win a Blue Peter badge for your cool, dedicated setup. September 5, 20205 yr Very cool. And full marks for doing a Hurricane instead of a Spitfire. 😎 Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
September 12, 20205 yr Author Thanks lads. Chock me old mukah. As far as I know, the only (Sim) working Hawker Hurricane instrument/cockpit panel in the whole world! Fuel selector working on the 3 x Tanks (Port/Stb and Gravity Fed Centre). I should have put the chocks in to stop the aircraft hairing off across the field - sorry! The delay is me waiting for the Oil/Water Temp to get to the right levels before going throttle up. Edited September 12, 20205 yr by Tinribs Vimeo link wasn't working - It is now!
September 12, 20205 yr Author Eureka moment when the Fuel/Oil pressure gauges were replaced with working (and reacting to telemetry) ones. The gauges were made from a mould from genuine gauges I have. As the engine starts, you can see the Oil & Radiator Temps start to creep up. Edited September 12, 20205 yr by Tinribs I had to spell mould right!
September 12, 20205 yr Author Here is the full monty. The bucket seat came out of the mock Hurricane as flow by Sqn Ldr Skipper (Robert Shaw) from the Battle of Britain film. At this stage, I am using the full "SpitSim" controller - Kerching!
September 12, 20205 yr Author ACG (Air Combat Group). All squadrons flow by RL people. I used my home cockpit to fly. Battle of Britain campaign flown online with in your squadron (mine was 32 Sqn - GZ-L) I didn't include the dirty Hun. A couple of years ago now. ACG moved on to BoS/Bom. Edited September 12, 20205 yr by Tinribs Added the campaign
September 12, 20205 yr Author Oh, and that chap Peter Larry (warbird artist extraodinaire) he flew with 111 Sqn. His Grandfather was the chief test pilot for the FW190 (Butcherbird).
September 12, 20205 yr Author The missus gives it ago. 2 X Projectors and curved screen. Because the screen is pretty tall (from where you are sitting). The TIR is placed behind you. Hence the reason the TIR Tracker is looking backward. She flew OK as long as the aircraft was in a straight line, and Jerry wasn't about. Flickering on the screen is caused because the camera is not at the same framerate as the projectors. Edited September 12, 20205 yr by Tinribs
September 12, 20205 yr Author As it is Battle of Britain weekend. A Few of the Few - I wish I could include you all. Thank you for your sacrifice.
September 12, 20205 yr Author The build video. Couldn't have done it without you "drawer handle" & "Pipe" section B&Q. So, special thanks all round. The labels. Top row are the original. Bottom row are the Publisher replicas. Magento Switches. After spending af fair few shekles on the "long throw" Magneto switches. It was pointed out to me that these were manufactred for bombers, not fighters. After spending a fair few more sheckles, I purchased the genuine article, and swapped the long throw, for short throw. The trim wheel was a home-made effort, using a Dremel. This was replaced with a genuine Hurricane Trim wheel. Thanks Cambridge Figher & Bomber Society. Next time though, ask my permission before you try to sell me my own labels. Edited September 12, 20205 yr by Tinribs Had to explain things.
September 18, 20205 yr Author Battle of Britain weekend. Salute to 141 Squadron - Boulton Paul Defiants.
September 18, 20205 yr Author I was flying online as Louis Hopkins (a fighter pilot of 32 Sqn, 1940). The take off was a bit of a messy scramble, and the Squadron spent a fair bit of time trying to regroup. Server was having issues, as the skins on the other Hurricanes were trying to load. I got target fixated just south of the Isle of Wight. I never saw my attacker - just like many of the poor souls during the battle. Edited September 18, 20205 yr by Tinribs
September 19, 20205 yr Author Least we Forget - 75 years. It is 80 years this year - Time (no pun intended) flys. ACG Salute to the fallen.
