Sorry to say that your 8gb card is now the new minimum for v5

That´s not right. Minimum is 4GB, 8GB is recommended.

With 4 Gb you need almost everything on minimum .You need at least 8 Gb.

Nobody said that 4GB makes sense. It´s however the minimum requirement following the specs from LM.
If I end up with crashes although I´ve got those minimum requirements either those specs are wrong or the program is faulty.

Fixed it for you.

So what is v5.1-2 going to do exactly regarding VRAM?

This whole 8gb VRAM minimum is really a bummer...

My 9900k at 4.8 and my 2080super are still running well and I have 32gb of system ram.  With my current setup and resolution I can run decent sliders in v.4.5.

Really not in the market for a $1,499.00 card atm...

The answer seems fairly clear, then--stick with v4.5 and DX11 for the time being.  I think many DX12 game titles are going to use--and require--more VRAM.  That appears to be the price of progress.

1. I've seen many threads on DXGI errors as well - are those actually VRAM OOM errors?

No, they are very different issues.  You can run out of vram all day long and never have a dxgi error and you can  have dxgi errors and not be anywhere close to running out of vram. Some users get both while many others don't have issues at all. I've had a few dxgi errors when v5 first came out but none since and have never have problems with vram.

With TE-Florida as Texture Load=10, and the sim cranked right out...with E.A. on...you need MORE than 8 GB's...most likely 10 as for the new RTX1080.  I have 8GB's and with the sim maxed out as I like it...and running TE-Florida with the 10 tweak, I can't run the sim.  It crashes out with Vram OOM's.  If I run without E.A. on...no OOM's...so...yeah...you need 10GB's at least, to NOT face any OOM's...with the sim cranks full out...and E.A. set to on.

It’s all about balance Mitch...Here no TL=10.

There is always Raleigh scattering, regular haze and clouds haze. So I do not need the AG range to be set higher than medium as AG would be calculated that I cannot see ....

The same goes for LOD radius. High abd Ultra makes no difference on my setup with my custom shaders ( Raleigh scattering , clouds haze, regular haze )..

That might explain why I use 4K only but have enough headroom with VRAM.

So reading through this, I'm basically screwed on an Upgrade to v5, until I get a new GFX card with at least 16GB of VRAM?

Unless I turn the settings, I currently use, way down and hope for the best with EA on, Orbx TE regions and complex add-on airports?

It depends on your needs and pleasure - sorry if it was mentioned before in this thread  - but with a 8GB its possible to run at least 1080P with a demanding aircraft like the FSL/PMDG/Maddog.

I am running MSFS for VFR and P3dv5 for IFR and even at 4K its hardly above 5GB VRAM with medium settings . (BUT EKCH,KORD,KMIA etc. at least 11GB card with 4K)

In the past, Rob Ainscough and maybe others, have posted some recommended settings, for different levels of computers. Has anyone done this yet for P3D 5?

Love to know which sliders are the most critical for preventing vram ctd's.

I'm running a 9900K @5.0, 32 gb ram and a GTX 2070 Super with 8GB's.

Thanks.

What is EA?

It stands for "Enhanced Atmospherics" , LM's implimentation of the True Sky weather rendering engine that's in Prepar3d V5.

Derivatives of True Sky can also be seen in Ace Combat 7 and MSFS.
