September 11, 20205 yr So lately, there are a couple of things that drive me crazy about trying to fly IFR flights in jet aircraft. I'm sure this is just as likely to be my lack of knowledge than any issue with the game (or perhaps both), but I could really use some help! 1. How do you skip a waypoint in your flightplan with the FMC? For instance, in a plan A->B->C->D, how to do I go A->B->D (skip C)? The reason I ask, is because sometimes on a flight, when the arrival is activated, the first waypoint of the arrival has already been past. But once activated, the autopilot wants to turn around and fly it from the beginning. If I could activate the arrival and go-direct to the second waypoint and continue on from there, it seems that would be a lot better. 2. Why does the in-game ATC refuse to descend me down gradually to the appropriate altitude when flying an arrival? For example, they will bring me in @ FL200 and then expect me to descend to 3000 feet in a matter of a couple miles. I've kind of managed to work around this by continually requesting lower altitude, but I don't think we should have to do this. Guess I probably just need some sort of detailed tutorial on flying these Flight Management Systems. I don't need to pretend I'm a real pilot, but I'd like to at least know enough to actually be able to fly the jet aircraft from point A to point B.

Sadly...its not that you're doing it wrong (And I say sadly because at least then we could give you tips)...Sadly because these features are simply broken right now in MSFS. We're all hoping that either (or both) MSFS/Asobo fix the issues to the default aircraft avionics and/or 3rd party devs step in to save the day (as they have in every previous version of flightsim to date) I hope others chime in here and offer some workarounds in the mean time...but honestly I've just stayed away from these aircraft for now...for the same frustrations you're having. I'm having a blast with the slow stuff....flying low and marveling at the scenery and environment....like this: This literally takes my breath away when I see it in the sim....and this is default....never has a sim looked this good and performed this well out of the box. period. Keep watching in this forum and around the net for fixes/updates to maybe address issues with the default go-fast stuff. 😉 Regards, Steve DraGet my paints for MSFS planes at flightsim.to here, and iFly 737s hereDownload my FSX, P3D paints at Avsim by clicking here
September 11, 20205 yr 1. in a well modeled fmc/cdu it's really easy, you just delete out the waypoint and activate (slightly different for different airliners) can't be done in these birds, afaik. (but look on the bright side, fsx's default jetliners used a badly modeled handheld gps as an FMC, baby steps) hopefully some of these "zibo" projects for the airliners can get some extra functionality into the FMCs 2. The ATC seems to perform better with a more detailed plan. so I've found the ATC is much more human when I give it a full plan using airways, departures and arrivals. if you just give it a direct gps plan, it is more likely to spaz out on you in my experience. previous versions ATC would vector you a departure and arrival even if you didn't have one, and get you on the final fix, so previous versions were better with a direct plan, but if you had a "good" plan it would ignore it and vector you anyway. The new system seems to just want you to fly the published procedures, and will just give you altitude clearances, and an approach at the end. this is IMO better, and a more realistic approach (i.e. it's not the ATC's job to babysit you because you don't have a flightplan) but YMMV, and even if I like the way it's going, the ATC is pretty dumb all things considered. Looking forward to an MSFS version of Pro ATC X.
September 11, 20205 yr The ATC is just bad. I have found some tricks of my own to cope with it but for now you are better off just doing what works for you as Its not anything you are doing wrong. You can have the STAR loaded up and ATC will still have you descending 40 miles out from the airport scrambling to get down regardless of the STAR's altitude constraints.
