Clearly he has a point. Developers have a chance to make new money with msfs. Yet at same time he would have a bit of a conflict of interest with his companies deal with Microsoft to be exclusive distributor of dvd copies of the sim. Those of us who are still primarily flying P3d are probably the more hardcore type whom aerosoft didn’t have the same appeal to. They didn’t make planes on the pmdg, fslabs, maddog x, and majestic level.

5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW  and 2  22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU,  360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next

Like said above, I believe Aerosoft is heavily involved with FS2020.  Naturally, they will want to push that platform.   Their products are also better suited for the “new” FS2020 user who don’t need/want/or understand in-depth add-ons.

Their P3D sales flatlined because their (“professional” airplane) products suck and stand no chance against some competing DEV.

He's challenging hard core P3D stick-ons to buy more Aerosoft P3D products.

P3D vendor support will be around for a while.  How long?  I see it related to how well LM steers P3D.  So far, v5 isn't it.  I'm still on v4 and loving it.  Would I prefer v5's performance?  Sure, but I do not ever want to be in the memory game again.  FSX was it, and the reason why I switched to P3D.

The rest is too early to tell.  MFS is just beginning to mature.  Sales where initially good... let's see how they endure.  I'm sure as soon as PMDG starts poping out their birds for MFS, lots of P3D users will switch.  So far we see lower prices on the MFS side.  Hopefully that sticks.

I would like to hear the opinion of an independent advisor, not from someone directly involved in the business. Reasons are clear, one of them being conflict of interests.

In the meantime, let's enjoy what we have, P3Dv4.5, P3Dv5, XP and MFS!. Plenty of options!. There's also people still enjoying FS2004!.

Cheers, Ed

I wouldn't say Aerosoft's professional planes "suck." I have the CRJ and the Airbus package and find both of them to be excellent addons, especially at the current price point. I also have Majestic, PMDG 737/747, Leonardo Maddog, and QW 787 and I still enjoy the Aerosoft aircraft quite a bit.

Aerosoft's airplane addons are very mediocre for the most part. The A330 is decent, the Twin Otter quite good, the CRJ is atrocious. And some of their airports are last gen tech sold for high prices. It's obvious why they want MSFS to succeed. Lots of new users to sell mediocre stuff to.

The A330 is decent for its price.

You cannot be serious about the CRJ. That's a terrible addon and over multiple iterations with upgrade costs the dev hardly even manages to fix its bugs.

The CRJ is not as good as the Airbus A330 and A320 series, but I personally like flying it. Anyway, it is the only one on the market, so I am happy to have it. I hand fly all of my airliners, never use autopilot, and never use failures. These planes all do what I want them to do. I would not call any of them "terrible," but again that is my opinion.

Unfortunately, Aerosoft is probably correct. Their motivation is mostly based on two factors. The MSFS market is larger than P3d5. The second factor is that developing a quality aircraft for MSFS is a major challenge. Given how long it takes Aerosoft to put out a final product, they probably can't afford to develop for more than one platform at a time. My personal experience with the CRJ for P3d would lead me to rank their efforts below PMDG, FSL, Majestic, VRS, A2A and maybe even Leonardo and TFDI. I would have to be really blown away by credible reviews to buy an Aerosoft aircraft for MSFS. Aerosoft knows that competition in this MSFS market segment will be intense, so that's probably why they are dumping P3d5.

They're dumping V5 because the add-on market for it has tanked with the release of MSFS.

AS currently is helping Asobo with making an enhanced SDK.
Mathijs always has had a nose for good deals.

Surely the market for MSFS is larger than the market for P3D. But from the 1 million customers most of them are XBox players. And imho XBox players are less interested in complex aircraft and buying lots of airports .

Today I have flown 2h in MSFS at an Fs friend and while the terrain and lighting looks good the clouds look very simple and not sharp. And it has issues with the faster jetliners. What will happen to its performance as a PMDG/FsLabs ac will suck performance?

P3Dv5 is again a step up compared to V4. We now have DX12 , real looking water and EA ( beta at this moment ). I am sure that V5.1 will have an improved EA.
So I do not agree with Mathijs that the development of V5 has flatlined.

But because of the release of MSFS the sales  of P3D Addons might have flatlined. And maybe he was referring to that.

Reading lots of MSFS topics at Avsim, at the official MSFS forum and how I experienced MSFS I see MSFS as a very cool VFR game ( you may find it a simulator ) and P3D as a very good IFR jet simulation.

So both can exist next to eachother.

I find Mathijs's so disrespectful to so many people who have been buying Aerosoft P3D v4 and P3D v5 addons. Just because they can sell to a bigger-less demanding audience now, he says he's not fan of P3D now and P3D has commercially flatlined...seriously Mathijs? Where this comes from? If there was no MSFS you would love P3D. So, its not an inherent problem of P3D, he wants it to flatline. As about sales, I don't know what they see but I have not purchased any MSFS addon yet. All these converted airports I have in P3D and X-Plane but I see no reason to buy anything until advanced aircraft are published. So it seems Mathijs is thinking what's good for Aerosoft not for the advanced simmer.

A developer always thinks first what is good for his cash flow.

I am curious what will happen if complex addon jetliners seem to much for MSFS so the overall performance is not good enough anymore. And you will have to turn down most of its options.....
