quite impressed with FSX.

Recommended Posts

hi alli just got FSX on tuesday and have been applying the tweaks as suggested in this forum and others, i quite like the new camera views especially the flyby view and obviously the new terrain, i was also especially pleased with the detail they got into my local city Brisbane, however i too was sufferring from horrible frame rates and stuttering before applying the tweaks here, i did manage to get an acceptable 20fps over Brisbane, however once i went into NY La Gaudia my frame rates plummetted without me changing anything in which i achieved in Brisbane, any answer to this?i have reduced all the textures as suggested but i am at a loss to see why there is such a loss in performance by moving from one location to another. i have also applied the tweaks in the fsx.cgf file and display.cfg file.i know i still have to tweak more but i don't know why the above is happening.

There is something in the default.xml file that is killing frame rates over cities. Watch what happens, when you rename default.xml to default.bak. It's an interesting exercise....I don't like the lack of objects in cities, but its interesting to see what effect it has on smoothness and fps in big cities.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2.5 ghz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (94.47), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Well I feel pretty lucky.I have most scenery sliders to the right including autogen but of course renamed the default.xml which is a hugh hit I think for anyone. It is truly beautiful when looking out the window. I added all the tweaks at Matt's site except for autogen texture reduction. The photo textures with autogen on top is absolutely gorgeous.Bobfx-57, 2gig dual channel ddr, 2 7900gtx in sli mode, 2 70gig 10k rpm drives in raid(0).

>Question, if you renamed the autogen default.xml file, hence>it's not being used, then what good is it to move the autogen>slider to the right?>because it eliminates certian autogen objects, not complete autogen, you still get plenty of buildings and lots of trees..try it and see.Regards, MichaelKDFW
