The status of the A320N....Good?

Recommended Posts

I figure as there are so many repaints for the A320N that alot of folks must be flying it.

I have always been an airliner guy but mostly flew PMDG in P3D.  Since the release of MSFS, I've been enjoying GA flying like never before in a flightsim, but I would like to start familiarising myself with Airbus systems and start flying the A32N.  With the FlyByWire Project mods and the latest MSFS patch, is it in a good enough state to start doing that?

Negative. Leave it in the hangar for a while. She's got too many things missing from the MEL.

Thanks

Don't get me wrong Erich - she's still fun to fly if you switch off; ELAC 1, SEC 1 and FAC 1 FBW computers and hand fly her in DIRECT LAW.

But if you're used to the fidelity of PMDG, FSL, etc - she's a basket-case in comparison at present.

I think it depends on what you expect. As Will Fly For Cheese said, if you want PMDG level, then it‘s probably not for you, but if you want to familiarize yourself with the basics or just want to have a bit of fun, I‘d give it a try. I hadn‘t flown the A320 for quite a while (had the FlightFactor A320 in XPlane) and flying the modded plane for me was a good way to relearn the basics.

I have just updated with the latest A320NX and can confirm that we now have the cruise page, take off config button working and you need to turn on TCAS to get the transponder to work. It's all going in the right direction.

That's the spirit Erich.

We virtual aviators would give flying a house brick a go if we could hurl it through the air at sufficient speed!

Be prepared to have a similar feeling flying the NEO.

As Sierra quite rightly points out; it's being improved all the time by a team of dedicated enthusiasts here:

Make sure you get those mods onboard before you flick the batteries on.

Speaking of hurling through the air, I noticed that someone has made a thrust correction mod for the A32N.  Anyone using it.  Seems like it was way overpowered based on the initial reviews I saw.

The mod is in a very high development phase - the master is being updated almost daily. Considering the state the 320 was in before the mod they have done an amazing job up to now. It depends on if you are willing to miss functionality for now and enjoy the new things when they come along 🙂

In all honesty, I think it has a lot of potential but is not really an enjoyable experience yet. The autopilot is a huge pain in the $&§ (at least if you are coming from PDMG or FSLabs standards). You have to get involved all the time or it completely messes up the flight. After the autopilot is fixed, it will certainly be a very nice default plane (with the FlyByWire mod).

I’d say it’s close to the level of the Aerosoft Airbus initial release in back whenever that was — 2013 or 2014?

So it’s pretty good when everything works, but when something goes wrong it gets frustrating quickly. In a month it will probably be very, very good.
