Recommended Posts

Looks interesting.......

https://secure.simmarket.com/northern-sky-studio-ketchikan-int-msfs.phtml

Ketchikan International Airport (PAKT) is a state-owned, public-use airport located one nautical mile (2 km) west of the central business district of Ketchikan, Alaska.
The airport has no direct road access to the outside world nor to the airport so passengers must take a seven-minute ferry ride across the water to get to the airport from the town.

Features:
  • The most detailed replica of airport buildings and vehicles
  • Detailed mesh for the airport area
  • Custom surroundings
  • All materials converted and reworked for full PBR
  • Shading and occlusion (texture baking) effects on all airport buildings
  • High-resolution building textures
  • Use of native, highly efficient gITF models
  • Custom orthophoto for the airport and surrounding areas

I don't think so.  Haven't seen it move off the dock.

Great! Adding this to my list of sceneries to buy. The default Ketchikan is quite messed up so I'll be excited to use this one.

Is it done yet? When will it be released? Will it be freeware or payware? How much will it cost? Any updates on the progress? Will it work for Xbox? Can I be a beta tester? How's the performance in VR?

They did a fairly good job. The covered gangplanks are a bit off, but that's a small point.

For anyone who cares, the ferry is is the Oral Freeman. A good friend sat up in that wheelhouse for over 24 years, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth... He's glad he's retired.

Looking east down the channel from the terminal is the body of water, or channel, that the infamous "Bridge to Nowhere" would have crossed. From Ketch over to Gravina Island. A nice chunk of 25 by 10 mile flat real estate where the airport was built.

When the voters of Ketchikan approved the ballot measure sometime about 1974 for the Gateway Bourough to build the ferry infastructure, the ballot initiative stated that after the cost was recouped, the ferry ride (the ONLY way to get to the airport, and keep in mind there are no roads in or out of Ketchikan) would be free. Today's ticket is $7.50, but oh yeah... it's round trip...same day only. Another friend has the ballot initiative framed in his house. He brings the issue up at city council meetings from time to time.

That does look spectacular. Can someone give Alaska Airlines a ring and ask them to flog their 737s and replace them with A320s so that I can fly some real-world airline flights out of here before Q4 2021 please? No, I can't just pretend that they fly A320s. It's not who I am. Yes, it's a problem. 😉

It's really nice to hear a bit of local history with a personal connection. It makes somewhere on the other side of the world feel so much more relatable.

AK Airlines ended up with a bunch of Airbus hardware with the Virgin merger. Most are flown in the lower 48. I boarded one a year or two ago and muttered "forgive me Mr. Boeing" as I was boarding. We were the last people off at the destination and the co-pilot struck up a conversation walking into the terminal. He said he shared my sentiment for Airbus hardware, but after flying them for the past few months he was growing quite fond of them. I must admit I too was pretty impressed with the ride.

The 737 is an icon in SE AK, don't think they will be replaced too soon. Could be wrong, I often am.

Oh, cool. A few years ago, Northern Sky Studio released PAKT for X-Plane, which was really good. Seeing it now for MFS is a nice surprise.

The scenery is great but the Landclass, autogen and mesh are surrounding the airport are not representative of what I see stateside.
