X-Plane Official Feature Requests & Suggestion Board

It's clear than anyone asking to end XP glo-mo (supposedly because "it steals resources from desktop development") is either a troll or has the IQ of a turnip.

Make your call!

In this case I think it's both. In all reality the guy is a huge troll and constantly negging on X-Plane. Best just ignored. Starve him of the oxygen of publicity and let him talk to himself. Which he may be doing anyway

The question is what timeframe to expect until XP 12 gets released? Is 2021 realistical, or do we have to add some years.

I suspect the msfs hysteria has delayed it - so really tough to say.

Would hope to see a beta or even alpha by mid 2021 but I also wouldnt be surprised if they let 11.5 age some more.

I personally dont have any bugs to report on 11 (feature requests sure, and a couple of the dev tools are not quite finished, but fairly certain 11 is done for new features)

Didn't XP 9 end up at .60?

9 to 10 was before my time, but, for me at least, its less about the number and more about the state its in, I get the impression 9 was somewhat chaotic, 10 and 11 were almost like clockwork.

9 was pretty good for the time... It's the first version of X-Plane I started on and it was a very capable simulator (if not rather ugly when compared with FSX, you could still get it looking very good). I got started on scenery development in v9.

Didnt mean chaotic in the sense of not good, and more in the sense of lots of big changes over a short space of time, and not just the sim itself.

10 and 11 have been reasonably slow at first glance, certainly methodical. From a clean install the only hugely obvious difference between them is the UI.

Its not until you start getting into the aircraft, how they fly, their systems, scenery and other addons and of course VR that just how hugely different they are starts to stand out.

This was always why I didnt expect much from Microsoft. XP12 graphics with XP8 or 9 for everything else looks and sounds great when you open the box, but flightsim has moved on, and I shudder to think of the investment it took to bring XP8 to XP11.50, the spending on that timeframe alone is probably larger than the entire msfs budget.

Even XP8 appears ahead where it really matters.

Waiting time won`t be very easy, but on the other hand:

-On Topic-: I don`t want to give any suggestions for XPlane 12 because the developers know best what XP 12 needs, after all they are the ones who build it.  For me, giving a feeling how a Boeing might feel in reality is a wonderful experience. They did it perfectly in XP 11.

I want raytraced VR. Want it soooo bad.... I get excited like a small child everytime I think about it. everything else I would like I can live without, but raytraced VR would be 100% pure cocaine....

I had some fun in x-plane, vr, default c172, tried the damage model so took it beyond it's capabilities and restrictions.

My c172 broke, lost any stability and just dropped to the ground and exploded, with fires around. This was in native vr performance in the new 11.50.

It was terrifying, with the vr headset, the fmod sounds, the particle system.. I just ran away in free camera mode then closed the simulator lol

MSFS while is the most beautiful thing to look at doesn't have any of those, this a huge gap for them to close in my honest opinion.

Lightning and clouds, new procedural terrain system and scenery that can have fmod and particles, improve those and x-plane is way ahead msfs even for gaming terms, i'm not going to even begin to describe the gap between how mature x-plane already is with all those wonderful study level addons and msfs with their unfinished sdk.

Both need what the other already has, I suspect x-plane's case is easier to solve, only time will tell.

on another platform

What I always find hilarious about these comments is that windows is the "other platform" (and the minority of xplane users).

All Laminar devs afaik and a fair majority of the 3rd parties all develop on and for posix systems like MacOS and Linux/Android. Its needing to develop for windows and work around all the catastrophic bugs in that pos that wastes development time. (see also windows 7) Almost everything else (except Metal) is based on industry standards and except for screen size and some gpu related stuff identical, mobile included.

But hey, while waning Microsoft have carved out a worthwhile market share over the last 25 years without offering support for any standards, especially within the easily influenced and otherwise computer illiterate, so what can a dev do (other than constantly whine about how bad windows is on private dev channels, and occasionally in public)

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t have much wishes for XP12. All missing things but good ATC are done by third party add ons and ATC is not that important to me. Sure I will purchase 12 but I could go on flying 11 forever.

If you want the perfect flightsim go buy a real plane

TBH I dont think there is anything wrong with making some noise/trying to get yourself heard as to why its not a perfect flight sim as well.

Hey maybe thats how laminar can make some money charge us $1 every time we take off or land at an airfield, and than charge us for the fuel, that will make it more real and add money to there coffers. And teh developers could charge us for all there updates to simulate maintenance costs.

Theres already a 3rd party plugin for that

And round and round we go.  I still have to laugh when I see people say "It's impossible for Austin to compete with Microsoft", even though he's been doing it for the past 30 years.

Its called projection.

Quote

Psychological projection

Psychological projection is a defense mechanism in which the human ego defends itself against unconscious impulses or qualities by denying their existence in themselves while attributing them to others. For example, a bully may project their own feelings of vulnerability onto the target.

After Austin (and others like of Jérôme Binachon and Jean-Paul Monnin) have spent the last 25 - 30 years proving no volume of corporate paperwork can compete with them, no MS in the professional flight sim space, no sign of them getting remotely close.

I don't really laugh when entitled gamers who are probably now wedged in their chairs belittle the truly phenomenal contribution real people like these have made to aviation, safety and yes, even entertainment.

so my feature request - stop wasting time windows. Semi serious. There is a real cost to letting the easily influenced and otherwise computer illiterate into the world of flight, and its not clear windows is worth that cost.

There is so much bias going on here, on both sides. This topic is about the suggestion board and nothing else. So XP/MSFS word not allowed, you can go fight elsewhere this is not the topic for it 😛

Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."
