October 14, 20205 yr This is Blue Origin`s New-Shepard with a test lunar payload. It looks different than what we`re used to. Landings are always as spectacular. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1cdNxh5qZ4
October 14, 20205 yr Striking the diference between Space X and Blue Origin. Space X get all the publicity, thanks in part to Elon's activities and they seem very forthcoming with details of their activities and technology. Whereas Blue Origin just beaver away behind the scenes. And was it me, or did that landing look more stable than Space X booster landings?
October 14, 20205 yr Author I don`t know about the descent velocities. New Shepard uses parachutes and thrust to slow itself down. It does appear to look slower. We live in interesting times. Hopefully, I'll live long enough to witness a woman land on the moon in 2024. I won`t be around for a Mars landing, but I'll die confident that it`s going to happen in this century.
October 14, 20205 yr Looked a lot more steady to me than the Space X booster landings. Question is how much more fuel was expended for the Blue Origin booster landing in comparison. The capsule looked like a controlled crash, however. 16 mph into terra firma is still a significant jolt to anything on-board. I guess I just miss the grace of the Shuttle landings. Thanks for sharing the video. Exciting to see two successful private projects. Let's hope it continues so that we get to see Space exploration by humans outside of L.E.O. once again. Knowing Elon it will be a bit longer than that, but he is making it Space X's priority. He reckons there's a 70% chance of he himself being on Mars in his lifetime. He's also estimating a colony of one million by 2050. Hes a man with big ideas, but the nice thing is that he has a habit of making them happen. "Starship" is under construction now.

The parachutes and brakes slow it down considerably so I`m guessing that less fuel is needed to slow it down. Of course, BO`s booster probably weighs more than Space Xs Edited October 14, 20205 yr by CYXR

That's why there's rocket motors igniting to remove that 16 mph descent just before the capsule hits the ground... Didn't see those directly in action from the camera angle shown in the linked video. Must be similar to the soft-landing motors on the Soyuz descent module.
