Default 747 Yaw Damper?

Recommended Posts

Greetings!  Does anyone know for sure if the yaw damper for FSX's default Boeing 747-400 does not work?  There isn't a switch for it in any of the panel views, I can't click on it in the virtual cockpit, and I don't see any change when I use the default Ctrl+D keystroke.  I am just double checking because I am learning how to fly it and am following a third party sim 747 checklist.  The in-sim kneeboard doesn't mention yaw dampers and neither does the in-sim flying notes.  I am aware the default aircraft are quite limited, but I like to start small when I learn how to fly a passenger jet.  Thank you!

I use the default B744 and the Yaw Damper does work.  I have actually re-mapped that key combo to Shift + D but the default one should still work.  The test is when you're in the air (not on the ground) with the YD engaged & you attempt to yaw the aircraft. It might move the aircraft slightly, but with it off, the aircraft should yaw easily.  Now how effective is the damping effect, if indeed there is one, is anybody's guess. I don't believe I've seen any difference with it on or off while in flight.  The only thing is, to disengage the YD before landing (unlike in real life), as you won't have yaw control on approach when you need it for cross winds.  I don't believe Microsoft gave it a clickable switch, as are most switches on the overhead panel.

Thank you Angels40!  Sounds good.  I will use FSUIPC to assign Y.D. On and Y.D. Off to one of my controllers so there won't be any doubt in my mind if it is on or not.  I appreciate your assistance!
