ShadersHLSL? What for?

Recommended Posts

Hello,When you "play" with multiple monitors and change the size of undocked (in window mode) windows or undock to an other monitor a lot of calls are made to the contents of this folder in FS X.Does someone know what .fxh, .fx files are used for? Thanks in advance.

They are used for the bump mapping, specular mapping, and other shader effects.James

Shaders are small programs which tell DirectX how to render something on the screen. Previous version of FS did not use them but this version does. They are needed to draw the FS display. :-)

Salut Emile,Shaders are turned off by default for the GeForce FX 5200 (and also for most low-end and many medium range cards). To turn it on, you need to modify the display.cfg. Get ready for very bad performance, though. While the FX 5200 can render most of the shader effects, but not all, they will not necessarily look very good.Best to leave it off.A shame that the FS Team chose to push bridge, taxiway signs, and tetrahedron textures through the shader pipeline.Best regards.Luis

It is already off, Emile. In the display.cfg, you will find:;----------------------------------------------------------------------; NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 ;----------------------------------------------------------------------000010DE:00000320:nv4_disp.dllPanelAsTexture=0000010DE:00000320:nv4_disp.dll.1MinDriverRev=6.14.0010.4523PanelAsTexture=2Shader20Plus=0;----------------------------------------------------------------------; NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 Ultra;----------------------------------------------------------------------000010DE:00000321:nv4_disp.dllPanelAsTexture=0000010DE:00000321:nv4_disp.dll.1MinDriverRev=6.14.0010.4523PanelAsTexture=2Shader20Plus=0;----------------------------------------------------------------------; NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 ;----------------------------------------------------------------------000010DE:00000322:nv4_disp.dllPanelAsTexture=0000010DE:00000322:nv4_disp.dll.1MinDriverRev=6.14.0010.4523PanelAsTexture=2Shader20Plus=0;----------------------------------------------------------------------; NVIDIA GeForce FX5200LE ;----------------------------------------------------------------------000010DE:00000323:nv4_disp.dllPanelAsTexture=0000010DE:0000032:nv4_disp.dll.1MinDriverRev=6.14.0010.4523PanelAsTexture=2Shader20Plus=0Notice the last lineShader20Plus=0It is off so you do not have anything to do.By the way, before anybody buys a new video card for FS X, they would be well advised to check the display.cfg to see if anything is turned off by default. This would probably mean that the FS Team doesn't think that card is capable of handling everything in the game.Best regards.Luis
