October 20, 20205 yr Author I am both an IFR and VFR fan. I have sever excellent GA twins with RXP Garmin equipment now. I know at my age I likely will never have a chance to get PPL. So thereforvI am drawn more to the technicalities of aircraft. The various systems, the avionics etc I have Flight1 UT NA and my regional terrain is passable and ASN gives me chances to use those avionics. I look forward to the scenery improvements in MSFS but I do want to make sure my system is up for full sliders all the way and my CH stuff works.

Work issues kept me from a flight this morning, but I suspect I'll be sipping coffee and talking aviation with @cavaricooper in many more early morning meetings at some small, nondescript airport...convincingly represented in MSFS.....out of the box, to the likes that would never be seen in previous versions (so tiny that even Orbx would not even find it commercially viable)....but a quaint little airport many pilots in the real world would have fond memories flying out of (with stories to tell I bet). That to me is the magic of MSFS, even at this stage of immaturity, I still find a way to enjoy it. 🙂 Agreed! Also, shows that most ppl who are enjoying it in its current state are those low slow GA VFR pilots who really appreciate the scenery. The other camp of IFR flight sim enthusiasts, not so much...! I'm going to frolic in the medium I love. 🙂 Regards, Steve DraGet my paints for MSFS planes at flightsim.to here, and iFly 737s hereDownload my FSX, P3D paints at Avsim by clicking here

Well when it works, IFR with the modded A320 is actually quite good (I ignore ATC though). However until saved games restore more reliably and particularly with the current/new CTD issue clicking on the flt file to load it, for people like me who fly in 45 - 60 minute batches it's pointless.

October 20, 20205 yr You know, I've read so many horror stories, and seen so many people yelling at the top of their lungs that horrible things will happen if you try to fly with msfs that it's actually a bit nerve-wracking to use this Sim. As I Coast down to a landing, I'm expecting something bizarre to happen like for the plane to suddenly slew to the side or flip onto its back or something else horrible, and when what actually happens is that I uneventfully make a perfect Landing, I pretty much slump in my chair with relief. Oh, and happiness too, because it's a lot of fun! We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. October 20, 20205 yr Assuming the OP is not just trying to start some fires - this seems to me to be a cry in the "wilderness of doubt." Should I buy this???? I might answer with a quiz: Q. Should I buy this? A. If you have any interest at all - YES. People talk as if this is like getting a mortgage. In truth, even the priciest version costs less than two bags of groceries and you're not going to use it all up in a week or two.Unless you're one of the unfortunates who are lining up at food donation banks right now, just do it, and stop thrashing awake all night over the decision. Q. Is this sim going to be what they promised? A. Hell no! What they promised (and taunted you with on YouTube) is NOT what they delivered. You will discover that what they promised just results in more promises. Get over yourself. This is business. They promoted, and you bit. They do seem to be making an effort to deliver. Q. Is it usable and fun? A. Hell yes! It's usable but far from perfect. There are countless things that don't work. Just accept those that do and don't get all hung by those that don't. Discover patience. If you have any sim experience at all you will quickly perceive that this is another dimension. The promises could be BS - but if they're not, this WILL be the bleeding edge for people who are trying to experience the world from their chair, for the foreseeable future. If you choose an AC that pretty much functions as expected (forget the fancy glass panels for now, or you WILL be courting some regret)), and spend a few hours in this thing just flying around the planet in varying light and weather conditions, You WILL become a believer. Boot up a sunset flight around any sizeable airport that has all the runways lit, and after making an approach and landing, ask yourself if you might like to do that again. I would like to provide some context for that statement: most things, once you understand them, work exceedingly well. I've completely dozens of IFR flights flawlessly, and in that regard exactly how I would have flown them in P3D. I mention this because some might read that statement and expect a disaster, and truly it's hardly a disaster, at least for those who did not have install issues is fair to say. I have about 74h now and have hardly had an issue when I understood how to do something in-sim. ATC isn't all bad and there are improvements in it over the old one, though it's certainly not all good. More often than not it routes me as my flight plan does, and when it assigns an approach I able to set it up in the TBM930's G3000 and do IFR and RNAV GPS approaches just as done in P3D, only better, since ATC actually makes the assignment to include VOR/DME, RNAV & ILS approaches. Com and Nav frequencies are in the MFD and are selected--reallly, it's pretty darn complete already. The only thing I miss is variety now for the familiar high end planeware I'm using in P3D. Sure, there are a few bugs here in there but flight modeling is very decent and that also comes from RW pilots or those who claim to be. Feels more more realistic than P3D ever did. The lightening bug should be a piece of cake to fix when they get there. Ground crew behaviors can be improved w/o a whole lot. October 20, 20205 yr I'm sticking with MSFS. Little NavMap works for planning. I use FSUIPC to manage my HOTAS. With Navigraph I have sensible navdata. With REX Weatherforce I have accurate weather. I've added offline AI traffic using the new version of AI Flight Planner and I have realistic models, liveries and schedules. I've bought some nice 3rd party airports from Flightbeam, LVFR and FSDT. I've created a few updated airports of my own. Until VR is enabled, TrackIR works perfectly fine. I've turned MSFS into a prettier version of P3d5. And I'm resigned to the fact that the built-in ATC, the half-done SDK and the flaky autopilot will eventually be fixed, but probably not right away.
October 20, 20205 yr After about 2 months spending almost 100% of my flight sim time with MSFS encountering issues from time to time, I am at the moment 80% AeroFly FS2 in VR and 20% MSFS. I was going to upgrade my GTX 1070 8GB card, but since I purchased the premium deluxe version from the Microsoft store I thought I will just save the money and wait for the Xbox series x version release. I feel the Xbox version will be more stable and complete compared to the PC version and most likely load in 4k HDR in ultra high settings. I will just wait for the Xbox version and hopefully it will include VR, playback functionality and the other good stuff.
October 20, 20205 yr Yes but if they can’t even revert back to the state the program was before the Japan update then I’m afraid I can never unsee the downgrades.

October 20, 20205 yr I think that nobody owns the truth regarding current MSFS State, it will depend on your expectations and how you want to use the simulator. If you like VFR flying around the world, for me it is clear that MSFS is the sim for that, the airplanes that you need are not complex (C152 does not even has autopilot!). The main problem I find with the latests patches is that I can´t use real weather because when I use it lighting strikes appears everywhere, even with few clouds, and I think the rendering has been downgraded with the patches, for me the sim looked better in the release than the current version. For IFR flying in general, but specially airliners, for me the sim is not ready, and serious developers are not able to give us a date when to expect their realeases, right now they are working with Asobo/MS Team to develop the SDK and looks like they will need months to build a robust SDK. I feel that with every patch the Sim looks worst, today it might be a bit more stable, but graphically to me the first version looked better. I really like MSFS and I feel confident that Asobo/MS/Developers will continue improving the sim until it becomes the best sim in the market, but I am afraid that we will need to wait may be couple of years to see that, meanwhile I enjoy Prepard and X-Plane for non-VFR flying.
