Navigraph and MSFS2020

HI Guys n Gals.

If I subscribe to navigraph,  does Navigraph update the Airport database in MSFS2020 so that a lot of the missing ILS approaches now appear?   and does it do this on the MSFS2020 inbuilt flight planner so I can automatically get the new data?

Also.. is Navigraph good for world wide, or better in certain areas..  I fly most;y in the UK and Europe.

I tried to look on the Navigraph forums, but i cannot get to see those without a subscription 🙂

I am using it for a couple of months now and it's very helpful!

To answer your questions:

Yes it does update the database but it is in beta at the moment.

And no it doesn't do it automatically (yet). You have to download the current data from time to time.

It is a worldwide database so you don't have to worry about any certain areas. 

But be aware it is for IFR use.

 

All in all i can only recommend it! If you have a tablet you can use it as a moving map.

When you say for IFR use...  what I am trying to do is flying a lot of routes for OnAir...  many of those airports show ILS approaches for many airports that when you go to in the MSFS flightplanner have no record of those ILS approaches...   so I was wondering if the Navigraph adds those approaches, or whether the fact that the default airports don't have those approaches will it make the navigraph data redundant and not useable.

Well...i BELIEVE it does add certain things that are missing. But can only tell about my experience. I haven't come across any missing ILS/VOR/Fix etc by now. I am flying mostly mainland europe so i'd expect you won't have any problems either.

okay thanks..  I guess I'll try a one month sub and see if it helps, and then decide what to do after that 🙂

I use Navigraph for years (P3D) and I can say in my opinion it's the best navdata service available, and you don't need to have a subscription. For example, you can buy one month and un-tick where it asks for automatic renewal (or similar, do not take it word by word). For a MSFS worldwide navaid database you don't need to update every month, maybe something like every 6 months or maybe once per year.

The good thing about this is that you can have the same navaid database for the base MSFS sim aligned with your addons like FS Tramp (which is highly useful for IFR flying), so you can plan your flights using the same database.

Yes, and yes.     The official description is on the Navigraph beta forum, but since I think you need to be a member to read it I'll copy the key bits here.

• Missing airports have been added (e.g. EDDS and ZBAD)

What Not to Expect

This navdata update service from Navigraph only updates the navigational data. To some extent the simulator will attempt to redraw the visual scenery, but this update will not affect buildings, aprons, taxiways, landmarks, geography or anything visual that, for example, a scenery developer would work with.

Known Current Limitations

In addition, we currently exclude the following items (meaning we leave the default data untouched), but expect to add when possible:

 

• airways and ATC boundaries
• airports with a longitude >= 161 degrees
• all MilTacans
• all Com frequencies < 118 MHz

The installer app also has a few known limitations:

 

• it's not possible to sign out - to reset app delete folder %appdata%\navigraph-desktop
• the app can be started multiple times
• the application sometimes does not quit properly after having been started multiple times
• if the sim is running the installation/uninstallation will fail

They may need to update their description. The problem with no updates to airports with longitudes greater than 161 degrees was fixed in one of the earlier beta versions.

So if I pay for a month and turn off the renewal  will I then get the latest data for that month then after the end of the month the system will still work but I just won't get later data updates? That is the subscription is really just for updating the data and not the app itself?

That's right. Any month you pay for, you get to keep that data if you don't renew.

Does it update RNAV approaches so that the vertical guidance (glideslope indicator) works correctly?  In the standard MSFS database, the glideslope indicator is pegged at the bottom of the gauge..

I'm not sure the vertical guidance is part of the Nav database. But maybe someone can enlighten us here. RNAV apps seem to be bugged with Navigraph too.

@Moria15 In regard to MSFS you have to apply as a Betatester and for that you need a subscription for Navigraph.

The database itself will be installed in the Community folder and MSFS will use this data. You have to visit the forum to stay informed about the latest versions of the app and the database - it is all WIP. You can expect updates several times within the normal monthly cycle. If you use it and you miss anything like Frequencies/Procedures eg. report it to the forum.

As a subscriber for years I can only recommend Navigraph. And I would recommend the full subscription, including charts as it is sometimes a mess to get actual charts unless for the US. In short - for a serious flightsimmer a must have. No IFR flight without a exact planning (I use Simbrief) and without the charts.

@Bert Pieke It updates all published procedures for the respective Airport. At least you should have the data (check the charts). There a sometimes still discrepancies between MSFS and Navigraph but they are working on it. And don't blame Navigraph for missing features in regard to G1000 eg. - this belongs to  ASOBO.
