October 19, 20205 yr Completed a flight from Kansas City to Bloomington, Indiana, today. The weather was way off. Two hours of constant thunder and lightening and no reported TRW from stations enroute. There had been rain along the path. 12 hours before I flew. So shelled out for REX Weather Force. Have read it may not be perfect, but it has to be $20 better! Now will someone work on cloud textures? I was mostly on top at 11,000 and the clouds looked like spools of cotton candy. Oh, and by the way. As someone with tons of weather experience... there are rarely if ever thunderstorms with tops below 11,000..... October 19, 20205 yr So, wait. . .what are you saying. . . you want some spinach or some quality time with Olive?
October 19, 20205 yr Just did a flight from Atlanta to Minneapolis and outside of no fall textures the weather was spot on (default weather that is). What got me was upon short final I was wondering why my landing speed had to be 175kts in the Longitude versus the normal 145kts. Come to find out icing on the wings which should have been clear off by the boots was still visibly present and apparently affecting the aircraft. Asobo really needs to address the out of control icing on aircraft both visually and practically. As the winter months roll on places like KMSP will have aircraft needing to land at much higher speeds. This is do to the fact that not only is there cloud icing but as in the case today it's so cold up in Minneapolis it doesn't get warmer as you get closer to the ground and don't have a temperature inversion. It's okay - as it stands now; MSFS 2020 is Season-Free. Blow it out and fly it like it's Summer. It won't make a jot of difference in the FMC. One day it will - but not yet.

I did get a chance to shoot an ILS approach to minimums in Bloomington. In the G58. Approach to ILS 35 is a circle-to-land approach and the G1000 inserted multiple numbered fixes in an arc leading from OPMAC (9 o'clock on the IAP below) to the IAF. I was stunned at first, then recovered to shoot a perfect approach. Wish I had taken a screen shot of the G1000 map showing the arc. Believe this was the first ILS I have shot off of an otherwise GPS navigated flight plan. Was unsure of when to make the CDI transition from GPS to LOC1 in this sim, if you read between my lines. Well what are you complaining about then? (Nice Opp for a Radial Vor Arc) - hope you took it. Remember; DR is something you might only be left with when everything else has gone to pants. October 19, 20205 yr One of the biggest Nudges I've encountered so far in MSFS 2020 - is; Look out the window - it's all there in front of you. Sure, scan your instruments but keep your focus out the windows. That's where the airport is. THAT'S where you have to land. Clock the Runway. Extend the line. PAPIS? - great. Line her up and fly her down. Much easier than trying to nail a few pixels on a G1000 or even worse; a dot on a 747 ND. Eyes - Mark One - best Approach tools ever created! Unless you're CAT III - in which case fly down to your Minimums - and if you still don't like what you (can't) see and you haven't got AutoLand then hit TO/GA and go elsewhere. I had a fun icing situation doing Leg 3 of my around the world flight this weekend. Ended up landing with a fully iced over windscreen in the Bonanza. Thankfully whoever created the icing in the 3D model left a small square you can see out of. I realized after the fact, I probably could have used the synthetic vision on the G1000.... I use a freeware called unreal weather metar, which goes out and gets METAR reports periodically and loads them. It's not perfect, and you have to play around with your configuration file to see what works best for you. When the weather goes to a new METAR report it kind of drops or raises like a curtain, but you can tweak it. I find getting a new METAR report every 10 minutes while transtioning between the reports over 5 minutes gives a fairly decent transition, but it's not going to be perfect. You do have to create an account to get the METAR's, but that's free too, at least free for 4000 reports a day. But there are only 1440 minutes a day, so unless your getting a new METAR every 15 second's you're good. Look here if you're interested, at least until the live weather engine gets fixed to be less electrifying. https://unrealweather.blogspot.com/

I haven't had any cotton candy experiences with clouds at ultra. At medium and low, yes. And sometimes high, but at ultra, they've always been pretty well textured.
